Lou Dobbs: Trump’s the smartest president to occupy the White House in a long time’

Lou Dobbs applauded President Donald Trump for his actions concerning Iran and noted that he is the “smartest president” to occupy the White House in a long time.

The Fox Business host praised Trump Tuesday for essentially creating a “new Iranian deal,” saying that he “drew a bright vivid red line and said to the Ayatollah ‘don’t you dare cross'” following the events of the last week as tensions escalated between Iran and the U.S.

“This is not a time where the president wants to increase troops. In fact, he wants to withdraw troops. But he is making it clear to Iran that their era of sponsorship of terrorism is at an end,” Dobbs said, speaking with national security analyst Walid Phares on “Lou Dobbs Tonight.”

Phares agreed, noting that with “three tweets – half of which were in Persian – the U.S. president has been able to move masses and masses inside Iran.”

“The regime is worried about his popularity,” he added, referring to protests against the Iranian government by its own people as demonstrations broke out in cities across the nation following the admission that Iranian forces accidentally shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane.

“The left-wing national media accused [Trump] of starting a war that would be a disaster,” Dobbs said.

“This week he has won a war and changed the direction of the geopolitics of the region,” he added. “He’s, in a week, effectively, won a war that the national liberal media and the radical Dems said was a disaster and from it, he has created success. It’s a masterful performance.”

Phares noted that Trump “did something the other camp did not do,” sending a very different message than what Democrats were clamoring for and even from what previous administrations chose to do.

The president “has this pragmatic connection with the base not just here at home, but also in the region,” Phares remarked. “He understood the wind is with him.”

“At some point, the left-wing national media and the radical Dems, as they continue to subvert this president, try to overthrow him,” Dobbs interjected, “I think they’re going to figure out that he’s the smartest president who’s sat in that Oval Office in a very long, long time.”

Dobbs slammed the “RINOs” joining Democrats to vote in favor of a war powers resolution that limits the president’s military action against Iran.

“Why would anyone at this juncture, when the president is moving so forcefully and successfully ahead in the region, in terms of U.S. policy and indeed in terms of European interest as well in the region, why would they decide to be so destructive and absolutely irresponsible?” Dobbs asked.

Phares contended that “a healthy debate on the war powers of a president” in general is welcome but the move to restrain Trump “at this point in time” was a bad idea.

“Blocking the president from developing these war powers when we are confronting the Iranians” concerned Phares.

“It’s not in peacetime,” he said, adding that he also does not see the wisdom of a vote “which is stopping or blocking any vote to support the demonstrators.”

“So the business is more about Iran than a course in international law,” Phares concluded as Dobbs agreed, calling it “shameful.”
