John Brennan launches angry tweet questioning intel to take out Soleimani, calls Trump a ‘liar’

Former CIA Director John Brennan is doing his part to push the Democratic narrative that President Donald Trump had flimsy evidence to justify ordering the U.S. airstrike that killed Iran’s terrorist Qassam Soleimani.

The Pentagon said that the strike to kill Soleimani, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force, was “aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans.”

In his quest to trash the commander in chief, Brennan, now an MSNBC contributor, took to social media to call Trump a liar.

“Gang of 8 in Congress is entitled to ALL intelligence on Soleimani killing. Trump’s lies, reckless jingoism, and incompetence disgrace the office of the presidency. Right-wing ideologues in Administration & media steering Trump have put our Nation in grave danger,” Brennan tweeted.

At a rally Thursday night in Toledo, Ohio, Trump described Soleimani as a “sadistic mass murderer,” as he made the case for killing him.

“Last week, the United States once again took the bold and decisive action to save American lives and deliver American justice,” the president told rally-goers.

“Soleimani was actively planning new attacks and he was looking very seriously at our embassies and not just the embassy in Baghdad. We stopped him and we stopped him quickly and we stopped him cold,” he added.

Given that Brennan is a former high ranking U.S. official, it’s remarkable that he not only called President Trump a liar, but his entire administration — and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nation’s highest-ranking military officer.

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said on Tuesday that Soleimani was planning an attack that was just days away.

“I think it’s more fair to say days, for sure,” Esper said. “[Soleimani] was clearly on the battlefield, he was conducting and preparing, planning military operations, he was a legitimate target and his time was due.”

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said on Twitter Thursday morning that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley told senators in a briefing that Soleiman was planning a “near term attack.”

“Any Senator who left the briefing on #Iran & claims #Soleimani wasn’t planning a near term attack on Americans is calling the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Milley a liar. Because Gen. Milley stated clearly & firmly that Soleimani was about to kill Americans.

In an appearance Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Brennan essentially defended former President Barack Obama for not going after the Iranian commander who had the blood of over 600 Americans on his hands, saying there was “no reason” to do so.

Brennan called Soleimani “my principle nemesis during my four years as President Obama’s counter-terrorism adviser and four years as CIA director.”

But he questioned the “legal basis” to take him out while noting that we might make Tehran really, really mad if we did.

“In the Obama administration we were trying to be as lawful as we could be in the prosecution of these efforts,” Brennan said. “But more fundamentally, I think from a strategic standpoint, there would have been no reason to go forward with this if, in fact, the calculation was that by assassinating Soleimani you only increase the Iranian ire and it’s a likelihood they’re going to use the capability against us.”
