Hispanic Border Patrol agents are furious that the media demonizes them simply for doing their jobs, which is to enforce federal immigration laws that both Democrats and Republicans enacted decades ago.
The media downplays the fact that 52% of Border Patrol agents are Hispanic, so smearing them as white supremacists and Nazis is not only hurtful, but wrong.
Former CBS News correspondent Lara Logan recently traveled to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas for her new Fox Nation series and interviewed federal immigration agents.
Logan asked them: “What’s one of the things that drives you crazy that people believe about what’s going on down here that’s not true?”
Jose Calderon, a Border Patrol agent, replied: “They portray us as villains. [The media push lies about] how bad of a job we do or that we’re mean to people. That’s not the case.”

When Logan asked what is their mission as Border Patrol agents, Calderon said his job is to protect the United States and enforce its laws.
“We’re here to protect our borders, protect our country,” Calderon said. “That’s what we stand for. That’s what I stand for.”
Jose Calderon said he and his colleagues feed, clothe, and even bathe illegal immigrants after they sneak across the US-Mexico border. He says it’s heartbreaking that migrants risk their lives to sneak into the United States, thanks to leftist policies encouraging mass illegal immigration.
“You speak to these [migrants] and they’ll tell you the more dangerous part of the journey is crossing Mexico,” Calderon said. “And then, they end up in the best hands: We provide them with food. We clothe them, we even give them medical attention. We bathe them. We give them everything — basically, whatever they need. And then the media comes and they say, ‘They’re putting them in cages’ when that’s not the case.”
Lara Logan replied: “I almost feel like you have to apologize for upholding the law and protecting the border.”
Calderon agreed. “They make it feel like it’s wrong — to actually do what your job is — what you’re supposed to be doing.”
While the media and Democratic lawmakers like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez bleat the left-wing narrative that it’s mostly moms with children who are sneaking across the border, Border Patrol officials say that is a lie.
Oscar Escamilla, a Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge, said: “I have gang members coming in here. As a matter of fact, I have two subjects who committed murder in the last 24 hours that we apprehended — in this place. One of them committed double murders in the U.S. that we have in our custody.”
Rodolfo Karisch, the Chief Patrol Agent in the Rio Grande Valley Sector, said his team is merely doing their job to protect the communities they serve and protect U.S. borders.
“Our job is to protect this country and our communities,” Karisch said. “We’re part of these communities. We care about what happens here.”
The Border Patrol agents said they’re also acutely aware that children are being smuggled or trafficked by Mexican cartels.
One agent said, ‘When I’m sitting in this center and I’ve got a father and a child in front of me… I’m looking at that child knowing that if this isn’t his father, I’m his last hope.'”
In September 2019, Brandon Judd — the president of the National Border Patrol Council who represents 16,000 Border Patrol agents — said President Trump’s unwavering support has boosted their morale.
Judd said: “You would think that with the attacks that we’ve had by people like AOC calling us ‘Nazis,’ that morale would be in the tank. But when you have a president that has our back and supports our mission, morale is going to go up.”
The Democrats’ open-borders policy is encouraging more mass illegal immigration and violence toward Border Patrol agents. The media continues to demonize ICE and Border Patrol agents as white supremacists, even though 52% of them are Hispanic.
This racist rhetoric from the left-wing media and Democratic lawmakers like Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is encouraging attacks on federal agents.
In July 2019, a horde of 50 illegal immigrants punched and kicked Border Patrol agents while trying to sneak across the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas.
“These migrants were throwing rocks, glass bottles, and other debris,” said Hector Garza, the vice president of the National Border Patrol Council. “Some of our agents were hit on their heads.”
