Update: Brian Mast won’t award ‘Conservationist of the Year’ to anti-Trump lawyer from alleged George Soros front group

What’s gotten into Congressman Brian Mast? Last February, he appeared at a public meeting with the George Soros-linked environmental group that has made a habit of suing the Trump Administration. The radical group, the Center for Biological Diversity, has sued the Trump Administration 179 times and counting. According to the organization itself, “The Center for Biological Diversity is resisting Trump in every way possible — especially in the courts.” The anti-Trump activists have even launched an online ticker, which is updated every time they file a lawsuit.

The agenda for a dinner at an upcoming Everglades Coalition Conference appears to show Congressman Brian Mast (R-FL) scheduled to present one of the organization’s senior attorneys with the “Conservationist of the Year” award. The news set off Republican critics. His office has since clarified that the agenda has been misinterpreted and Mast will not be presenting the award. Here is the presentation on the event’s agenda:

UPDATE: Deputy Chief of Staff, Brad Stewart responded to BPR’s report by saying that Mast would not be presenting the award.

“Congressman Mast was invited to speak at the Everglades Conference, which is a non-partisan event, and is attending to discuss his efforts to secure federal funding for Everglades restoration projects.  He is not presenting an award to anybody.”

The award’s recipient, Jaclyn Lopez, who is the Florida Director and Senior Attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity, is “focused on protecting imperiled species and ecosystems.” Her employer has received $17,500 from a George Soro-linked organization. The group in question is the Center for Biological Diversity, a far left environmental group supported by the George Soros-backed and San Francisco-based Tides Foundation. Soros’ support for the Tides Foundation has been widely reported.

Adding insult to injury, Mast’s upcoming presentation will take place in Sanibel, Florida, in the heart of Southwest Florida, a Trump stronghold. The President and other Republicans have dominated there in recent years.

Mast’s upcoming presentation has angered at least a few conservative activists and grassroots organizations, such as the East Lee County Republicans, which questioned why “a Republican is supporting an organization that has published a RESIST TRUMP AGENDA.”

Local Southwest Florida conservative activist Jeanette Morreal also wondered why Mast would be teaming up (yet again) with an organization that is so against President Trump.

Conservatives who want to see President Trump succeed and win a second term are wondering the same thing.
