On Friday, in televised comments to an “Evangelicals for Trump” audience in Miami, President Trump explained that he took the necessary step of ordering the drone strike on terrorist and Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in order to prevent a war, not start one. “He was planning a very major attack and we got him,” he said.

“Last night at my direction the United States military executed a flawless strike that terminated the terrorist ring-leader responsible for gravely wounding and murdering thousands and thousands of people and hundreds and hundreds, at least, of Americans,” said Trump. “Qasam Soleimani has been killed and his bloody rampage is now forever gone.”

“He was plotting attacks against Americans but now we’ve ensured that his atrocities have been stopped for good. They are stopped for good. I don’t know if you know what was happening but he was planning a very major attack and we got him,” the president added.

In a CNN interview, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi responded to anchor Erin Burnett’s question, in which she prompted him to agree that the strike on Soleimani was “a declaration of war.”

“When you look at what happened here, was this a declaration of war?” she asked.

“In fact, it was an act of war on the part of the United States against Iranian people,” he agreed. He said it represents a “new chapter.”

Ravanchi added that Iran would respond, exacting “harsh revenge,” saying “the response for a military action is a military action.”

An independent Iraqi television network released footage that it says captures the moment of the drone strike that killed the terror leader:

Soleimani has been called the world’s most dangerous terrorist and, as President Trump stated, was responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people, to include hundreds of Americans.

According to Kenneth Timmerman’s book, “Dark Forces,” the shadowy organization Soleimani led, the Quds Force, was behind the Benghazi consulate attack that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans in 2012. Quds is a combination intelligence agency and special ops military group.

According to a 2014 report on Timmerman’s book, the New York Post wrote: “Today, the Obama Administration has allied itself with Suleymani to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. In this case, Iran’s goals — a Shi’ite-friendly government in Iraq — coincides with America’s hope that the country doesn’t fall apart. But don’t be fooled: It’s only a partnership of convenience, and one that won’t last.”

Among a multitude of other attacks attributed to Soleimani, he was accused of trying to hire a Mexican drug cartel in 2011 to blow up a restaurant in Washington, D.C. in order to kill the Saudi ambassador to the United States … a plot that was stopped by federal investigators.
