Surveillance footage captured by a Las Vegas home’s front-door security camera exactly 45 minutes after the start of the new year early Wednesday morning shows exactly what domestic abuse looks like.
The footage begins with a crying woman rushing up to the home’s front door from a white sedan parked out front and hurriedly banging on it.
“Stop, Darnell!” she then screams in horror as a man rushes up the steps behind her, grabs her away from the door and then hurls her onto the stairsteps.
He then kicks her off the stairs and proceeds to yell, “Why would you f—ing do that!?”
Over the course of the next 15 seconds, the man then drags the woman back to the car and attempts to drive off with her.

Not much was originally known about the crime.
“The victim is a white female adult approximately 20-30 years old, dark hair, last seen wearing blue ripped jeans, a dark long-sleeve shirt, and dark boots,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police announced later Wednesday.
“The suspect is a black male adult approximately 20-30 years old with short black hair, last seen wearing a white shirt with dark-colored horizontal stripes, dark-colored pants, and brown dress shoes. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a white Hyundai Sonata with a sunroof and unknown plates.”
Thanks to the LVMPD, the case was solved within almost 24 hours.
“LVMPD confirmed they took Darnell Rodgers, 23, into custody around 3 a.m. Jan. 2 near the 4400 block of Sirus Avenue, near Arville Street north of Desert Inn Road,” local station KVVU confirmed Thursday afternoon.
“Rodgers faces charges of kidnapping and domestic battery, according to police. According to jail records, Rodgers’ first court appearance was set for Jan. 3.”
The unnamed woman was reportedly found safe, though the nature of her relationship with the suspect remains unclear.

Sadly, not all kidnappings end this well. Two months ago, surveillance footage from another home in the Los Angeles area captured the “gut-wrenching screams of a woman police say they believe may have been kidnapped,” as reported by KVVU.
“Witnesses in the Leimert Park neighborhood called Los Angeles police Tuesday to report hearing a woman screaming, according to an LAPD news release,” the station revealed at the time.
“‘Help me,’ a woman’s voice can be heard screaming in the footage, which shows only a dark street from a porch. ‘Somebody help me, please.’Â A car then races into and out of the frame.”

As of 2020, this case remains unsolved.
Unfortunately, the statistics pertaining to kidnapping remain very murky because of a lack of proper recording.
What’s known is that in 2001, 840,279 adults and children were reported missing, according to the Poynter Institute.
“The FBI estimates that 85 to 90 percent of those (roughly 750,000 people or 2,000 per day) reported missing were children. The vast majority of these cases are resolved within hours,” the institute noted in a 2003 report.
“Based on the identity of the perpetrator, there are three distinct types of kidnapping: kidnapping by a relative of the victim or ‘family kidnapping’ (49 percent); kidnapping by an acquaintance of the victim or ‘acquaintance kidnapping’ (27 percent); and kidnapping by a stranger to the victim or ‘stranger kidnapping’ (24 percent).”
What’s also known is that kidnappings often involve rape.
In Pennsylvania, for instance, a man reportedly high on drugs held a woman against her will this week and proceeded to beat and rape her. The 35-year-old woman eventually managed to escape right before 8:00 pm Wednesday, after which she called for help.
What followed was an 8-hour standoff between the suspect and local authorities.
“[W]e used tear gas to try to get him to come out, but was unsuccessful,” Hilltown Township Police Chief Christopher Engelhart said to local station WPVI.
The authorities eventually broke through the front door.

Over in Alabama meanwhile, a man reportedly kidnapped a woman at knifepoint in the light of day and then stuffed her into a cage. Yes, a cage.
“A man was arrested after he kidnapped a woman at knifepoint in Alabama and shoved her into a white van that had chained doors, blanket coverings and a cage in the back, police said,” CNN reported Thursday afternoon.
“The incident unfolded Sunday afternoon after a witness called 911 and alerted dispatchers to an ongoing kidnapping. The woman was bleeding from the head and face, and was screaming, ‘help he’s gonna kill me!’ as the man forced her into the vehicle, police said in a statement. The witness followed the vehicle and provided dispatch with details such as the van’s description, the direction it was headed and tag number, authorities said.”
Thankfully, the woman was rescued.
