A Colorado man waited at a coffee shop for police to arrest him after he allegedly robbed a bank and then threw the stolen cash into the air.

Moments after David Wayne Oliver reportedly stole thousands of dollars from a Colorado Springs bank, he walked outside, tossed the money into the air and yelled, “Merry Christmas,” an eyewitness told KKTV.

The 65-year-old allegedly walked into the Academy Bank and had “threatened the use of a weapon,” leaving the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash on Monday afternoon, according to police. He then went outside where he threw the cash into the air, according to witnesses.

Bystanders collected the money and returned it to the teller, according to Dion Pascale who told KKTV he witnessed it all.

“He robbed the bank, came out, threw the money all over the place,'” Pascale said. “He started throwing money out of the bag and then said, ‘Merry Christmas!'”

The suspect apparently walked casually to the Starbucks next door and “sat down and waited for the cops,” Pascale added.

“It was almost like he wanted [an arrest] to happen,” he said.

“An older white male threatened the use of a weapon and left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was found sitting in front of a nearby coffee shop and was taken into custody without incident by responding patrol officers,” the Colorado Springs police blotter reported.

Though Oliver had reportedly claimed to have a weapon while robbing the bank, no weapon was found on him and Colorado Springs police Sgt. Jim Jeffcoat was not able to confirm to The Denver Post that the cash was thrown into the air or that the suspect had yelled anything.

Police indicated that “thousands of dollars” remained unaccounted for, according to the Denver Post and Oliver, who was being held at the El Paso County jail, is set to make his first court appearance on Thursday.

Twitter users reacting to the story couldn’t help but remark on Oliver’s gray and white beard and hair.
