Former President Barack Obama has perfected the Democratic gimmick of talking out of both sides of his mouth. For months, Obama has heaped praise on socialist Elizabeth Warren during private fundraisers with wealthy donors — all while publicly warning the Democratic Party not to veer so far-left, because that alienates mainstream America.
Obama has raised eyebrows for not endorsing his own vice president, Joe Biden (whom he has disingenuously called his “brother” in years past).
That said, Obama has not publicly endorsed any Democratic candidate, saying he wants to wait until the primaries are over. However, most people can read between the lines, which is that Obama does not truly support Biden.
Meanwhile, Democratic donors claim that Obama has been working behind the scenes, talking up Elizabeth Warren to rich donors in a bid to allay their fears about her anti-Wall Street, socialist agenda.
“He obviously thinks she’s very smart,” one Democratic donor told the Hill. “He thinks her policy ideas matter. And I think he sees her running the campaign with the most depth.”
A longtime Obama ally said Obama has extolled Senator Warren in private meetings because he actually likes a lot of her ideas.
“He’s asked all of the candidates who have sought his advice three questions: Is your family behind you? Why you? And why now? She checked the box for all,” the source said.
This is interesting since Warren and Obama have clashed in recent years. Warren has criticized Obama’s six-figure speaking engagements since leaving office, and he has expressed frustration with her war on billionaires and millionaires — many of whom are Democratic mega-donors who put Obama and other leftists in office.
Obama sources insist that he will support and stump for any Democratic candidate who ultimately gets chosen as the nominee. However, Obama has signaled that he prefers a woman to be his party’s candidate.
Just last week, Obama said the world would be a better place if all nations were run by women, whom he claims are “indisputably” better leaders than men.
“Now women, I just want you to know: You are not perfect, but what I can say pretty indisputably is that you’re better than us [men]. I’m absolutely confident that for two years if every nation on earth was run by women, you would see a significant improvement across the board on just about everything: living standards and outcomes.”
Barack Obama also took a veiled jab at Biden, by saying that most of the problems in the world are caused by “old men” refusing to step down from positions of power.
“If you look at the world and look at the problems, it’s usually old people — usually old men — not getting out of the way. It is important for political leaders to remind themselves that you are there to do a job. But you are not there for life. You are not there in order to prop up your own sense of self-importance or your own power.”
Reminder: Joe Biden, 77, is a career politician who has spent 46 years in public office. Despite almost five decades in Washington, many say he has few accomplishments to show for his time.
