Jill Biden came under fire from an Angel Mom who criticized her for handing out Christmas presents to children in Mexico who were awaiting the processing of their asylum cases in the United States.

Angel Mom Mary Ann Mendoza suggested the wife of former Vice President Joe Biden should come to the cemetery to see “see heartbreak close-up” after reports of her visit to the camp in Mexico.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Biden said in visiting the migrant camp across the U.S.-Mexico border from Brownsville, Texas.  “It’s really heartbreaking. Across the river is the flag of the United States. The flag of the United States offers people hope. They’re bringing their families and their loved ones here for hope of a better future and a better life for themselves.”

“Heartbreaking? Meet me at the cemetery,” Mendoza, whose son, 32-year-old police officer Brandon Mendoza, was killed in May 2014 by a drunk driver who was in the country illegally, tweeted in response to the video.

About 2,000 migrants are currently residing in the camp which Biden visited where they are waiting as part of President Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy.

“It’s not who we are as Americans,” Biden spending more than two hours at the Matamoros refugee camp, where an estimated two thousand migrants, mostly Central Americans, are waiting.

“We are a welcoming nation, but that’s not the message that we’re sending at the border. We’re saying, ‘Stop. Don’t come in,’” Biden added.

Former San Antonio mayor Julián Castro also visited the camp in October.  The U.S. State Department issued a Christmas travel warning last week advising Americans to stay away from he city of Matamoros and the entire state of Tamaulipas, because of crime, especially kidnappings.

“There’s so much danger here for the families, for the young women, for the girls, from kidnapping to sex trafficking to disease to violence,” Biden said. “There’s so much here that needs to be addressed.”

Trump’s campaign called out Biden over the trip, and questioned her husband’s record on immigration.

The “photo op with asylum seekers in Mexico highlights how far left Joe Biden has shifted away from the asylum and detention policies he touted just a few years ago,” Trump campaign deputy communications director Matt Wolking told Border Report.

Mendoza found support from Twitter users after calling out Biden’s trip.
