John Durham reportedly digging into John Brennan’s part in FBI’s Russia collusion probe

Former CIA Director John Brennan is reportedly under scrutiny by the federal prosecutor investigating the origins of the Russia collusion probe.

Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham has requested “emails, call logs and other documents” from former President Barack Obama’s CIA director, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Brennan’s discussions with former FBI Director James Comey and his agency’s assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election are being targeted by Durham, who is also looking into Brennan’s statements on the use of the Steele dossier against President Trump during his election campaign and after being elected.

Durham is examining whether Brennan “privately contradicted his public comments, including May 2017 testimony to Congress, about both the dossier and about any debate among the intelligence agencies over their conclusions on Russia’s interference,” the Times reported.

Durham’s initial investigation into potential FBI and Justice Department misconduct related to the Trump 2016 presidential campaign has been expanding, with previous indications that Durham was interested in interviewing Brennan, along with former national security adviser James Clapper and other former Obama administration intelligence officials.

Brennan called the probe “bizarre” back in October, telling NBC News, “I don’t know what the legal basis for this is.”

The vocal Trump critic, who is now MSNBC’s senior national security analyst, was slammed by the president last year as “a loudmouth, partisan, political hack.”

Brennan fired back at the president earlier this year after he called him out for lying to Congress.

According to the New York Times:

Mr. Durham’s pursuit of Mr. Brennan’s records is certain to add to accusations that Mr. Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his perceived enemies. The president has long attacked Mr. Brennan as part of his narrative about a so-called deep state cabal of Obama administration officials who tried to sabotage his campaign, and Mr. Trump has held out Mr. Durham’s investigation as a potential avenue for proving those claims.

Durham’s investigation, launched by Attorney General William Barr, has expanded from its original size and scope raising questions about whether it has become a criminal investigation.

The former CIA chief has been on the defensive as he has tried to cover for his lies and actions. The recently released report from the Department of Justice’s Inspector General Michael Horowitz confirmed that Brennan lied to Congress about the use of the Steele dossier.

Horowitz found that the anti-Trump dossier played a “central and essential” role in the FBI’s FISA application to spy on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
