‘Liar!’ Intense scenes when Adam Schiff interrupted by angry voters, event turns to pandemonium

Rep. Adam Schiff was temporarily shouted down during a speech he attempted to deliver in his home state of California.

The House Intelligence Committee chairman was only a few minutes into his comments at the event hosted by the Armenian National Committee of America when all chaos erupted.

A video shot by an attendee at the event held at the Glendale Central Library showed the Democrat congressman speaking on how recognizing the Armenian genocide was a bipartisan issue for Congress. The hosting organization held the event as a way to thank government officials for their recent support in recognizing the Armenian genocide, the mass extermination of Armenians from 1915 – 1917 by the Ottoman Empire, which is modern-day Turkey.

Schiff, who represents California’s 28th congressional district which includes Pasadena, Glendale and his hometown of Burbank, is a co-sponsor of one of the resolutions recognizing the genocide in official U.S. policy.

But members of the audience began to shout during Schiff’s remarks.

“Liar!” one person yelled as seen in the video posted on YouTube by We the People Rising, which describes itself as a “grassroots, all-volunteer nationwide network seeking to influence – via activism – institutions of political corruption.”

Some attendees wore shirts supporting President Trump and others held signs, many of which bore anti-impeachment messages. More shouting erupted in the audience while Schiff stood at the podium watching as things got heated.

“You will be going to jail for treason!” shouted one man who admitted he was not attacking the event or its purpose but focusing on the congressman himself who is one of the Democrats leading the impeachment inquiry against the president.

“No disrespect to you all, I’m glad you guys are getting recognized for your genocide, but this man is a f—–g liar!” the man told audience members.

Angry words and shouts were hurled at Schiff as he made way at the podium for the event’s organizers to try to regain control. Other video footage that was posted showed how chaotic the scene got as some minor scuffles broke out between audience members and, in some instances, between the shouting crowd and those trying to get them to leave.

The following video shows the event from a different angle and more intense scenes:

A struggle broke out over someone taking a Trump 2020 banner and man could be heard repeatedly warning others not to lay hands on his wife.

Schiff apparently had some supporters on hand, however, who eventually began chanting, “Adam! Adam!”

No injuries were reported during the several scuffles that occurred and the event went on after the short interruption, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“While, as Americans, we value our right to freedom of speech, today’s actions by a select few were designed to disrupt an event that had no connection to recent political divisions and disrespected the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide,” the Armenian committee said in a statement following the event.

Schiff a;so commented on the event.

“I was grateful for the opportunity to share in the community’s celebration of the historic passage of the Armenian Genocide resolution in both the House and Senate, and thankful for the recognition of the efforts of so many people who made this day possible,” he said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, some came to the event with the intent to disrupt, but the Armenian community has had to overcome far greater challenges along the road to recognition than to be deterred by a few angry voices,” he added.
