A Florida woman’s video account of her attempt to spread Christmas cheer has gone viral, and it’s not just because of her act of kindness.

Mary Katherine Backstrom shared her video as a “most embarrassing moment” and sparked millions of views as she struggled through uncontrollable laughter over the encounter she had at a Fort Myers Wawa gas station convenience store.

“Y’all are going to die. I just stopped crying,” Backstrom said at the beginning of the five-minute video she posted on Facebook. “I’m laughing so hard. I’m trying not to start back up again.”

The blogger and founder of Mom Babble was “trying to burn some time” at Wawa while waiting to pick up her kids at school when she was inspired by the “holiday magic” and decided to pay for the ginger ale belonging to the woman who was on line behind her.

“I’m feeling the holiday magic,” she said she told the woman. “It was a precious moment.”

But as she left the store, Backstrom thought she encountered even more holiday spirit as she saw a man cleaning her windshield.

“I’m convinced this is the Christmas magic,” she said in the video as she fought to stop laughing, adding that she thought to herself, “I just love this time of year.”

“This is my favorite part of humanity. I love Christmas so much! Thank you for doing this,” she told the man cleaning the windshield as she gave him a hug of gratitude. But, as Backstrom fought through her giggles, she related the devastating realization she had at that moment.

“It wasn’t my car,” she said. “He was parked directly in front of me and he was cleaning his own windshield!”

“I told him I loved Christmas and humanity and I gave him a hug!” she continued.

“I had to share this with y’all because I’m out here hugging strangers at the gas station because the magic of Christmas is so powerful,” she told those viewing the video.

“He didn’t know why I was hugging him. I think he thought I was insane,” she added. “As soon as I realized it, I couldn’t control myself so I was like, you know, crying immediately. I just walked away, because what do you do?”

She was able to explain that she just headed straight to her car as if nothing had happened and closed her door, driving off and leaving the bewildered man without an explanation.

“Why did that man let me hug him?” she continued laughing as she tried to wrap up the video.

Backstrom’s mishap was funny enough but her contagious laughter is what continued to reverberate as the video soared to 45 million views in just a few days after being posted.

“Her unbridled laughter is so sweet and contagious,” one Facebook user commented. “The magic of Christmas is in your warm smile and burst of laughter. Merry Christmas!”

Another noted that Backstrom’s laughter was “good for the soul” while one user told the blogger, “don’t feel bad !! He probably needed that hug!”

Even on Twitter, users celebrated the mom’s Christmas spirit.
