As most any vermin will react when suddenly cornered, former CIA Director John Brennan blindly lashed out at his detractors Monday evening after IG Horowitz’s report came out earlier in the day.

Actually, Brennan spat his venom in the general direction of President Trump, as well as members of Congress and staffers who support the administration when he tweeted: “The damage being inflicted by @realDonaldTrump on our national conscience & our government is tragic. Members of Congress & staffers who defend & misrepresent his indefensible actions are telling Americans it’s ok to be dishonest, unethical, & corrupt. How far we have fallen.”

Although Brennan’s tweet was vague and did not reference the IG report, it seems apparent that his angst is originating from the assessment coming from the inspector general’s office.

The IG report confirmed that Brennan lied to Congress when he said the debunked Steele dossier was not relied upon for the Obama administration’s Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA).

The ICA was used to inform still-President Obama and then-President-elect Trump in January 2017 about Russian attempts to interfere in the 2016 election.

According to The Federalist, “FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe said that ‘he felt strongly that the Steele election reporting belonged in the body of the ICA, because he feared that placing it in an appendix was ‘tacking it on’ in a way that would ‘minimiz[e]’ the information and prevent it from being properly considered.”

In fact, “the ICA included a short summary and assessment of the dossier, which was incorporated in an appendix. ‘In the appendix, the intelligence agencies explained that there was ‘only limited corroboration of the source’s reporting’ and that Steele’s election reports were not used ‘to reach analytic conclusions of the CIA/FBI/NSA assessment,’ the IG report states.”

However, months later, in May 2017, Brennan was insistent in his testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence that the CIA did not rely on the Steele dossier for the ICA report. His exchange with fromer Rep. Trey Gowdy includes the lie …

Mr. Gowdy: Do you know if the Bureau ever relied on the Steele dossier as any — as part of any court filings, applications, petitions, pleadings?

Mr. Brennan: I have no awareness.

Mr. Gowdy: Did the CIA rely on it?

Mr. Brennan: No.

Mr. Gowdy: Why not?

Mr. Brennan: Because we — we didn’t. It wasn’t part of the corpus of intelligence information that we had. It was not in any way used as a basis for the Intelligence Community assessment that was done. It was — it was not.

The IG report clearly contradicts that testimony. The Federalist article points out: “On page 179 of the IG report, IG investigators asked former FBI Director James Comey if he remembered discussions with Brennan on presenting the dossier to Obama. Comey said Brennan and other officials argued it was ‘important’ enough to include in the ICA — clearly part of the ‘corpus of intelligence information’ they had.”

All in all, the IG report on FISA abuse found a total of 51 violations and 9 false statements, according to the report’s appendix. Obama appointee Horowitz inexplicably concluded that the FBI’s investigation into Trump was not politically motivated and was justified. That conclusion was quickly refuted by Attorney General William Barr and U.S. Attorney John Durham.

It’s quite likely that the ongoing investigation by Durham will further implicate Brennan and others in the wrongful attempts to take down President Trump. It’s been a long time coming, but conservatives can remain hopeful that justice will still prevail.

No doubt, Brennan is feeling the heat. He has little recourse other than to snarl and snort his remaining days of freedom away.
