Tucker nukes Pelosi for ‘cliché-bomb’ full of disingenuous praise of Founding Fathers

Tucker Carlson mocked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for invoking the Founding Fathers in the “cliché-bomb” that was her impeachment news conference.

The Fox News host slammed Pelosi’s reliance on a “dense cluster of familiar phrases” and historical references in her effort to sell the impeachment of President Donald Trump to the American people, calling her out during Thursday’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

Carlson slammed the left’s convenient about-face in dramatically hailing the Founders as “heroes” after the past few years of vilifying them in protests and demands to erase their names and likenesses from parks, universities and other buildings.

Pelosi referred to Founders James Madison, Gouverneur Morris, and Benjamin Franklin in her press conference Thursday as she announced that Democrats would “proceed with articles of impeachment” against Trump.

Carlson told viewers that the California Democrat’s words were a metaphor, painting Trump as a modern-day, “slightly more orange version of King George III” while Democrats are “the patriots plotting to overthrow him with violence.”

But, rather than find this image alarming, Carlson said Pelosi had some reassurance for America.

“A group of 18th-century slaveholders, she assures us, would have been completely in favor of what she’s doing,” he said, going to another video clip of her speech.

“James Madison, the architect of the Constitution, warned that a president might betray his trust to foreign powers which might prove fatal to the Republic,” Pelosi said. “Another founder, Gouverneur Morris, feared that a president may be bribed by a greater interest to betray his trust. He emphasized that this magistrate is not the king. The people are the king.”

“So James Madison has given Nancy Pelosi his personal seal of approval. Remember that the next time Pelosi’s acolytes try to pull Madison’s statue off its pedestal for crimes against progressive orthodoxy,” Carlson said.

“For a brief moment, the Founders of our country are useful to the left, so they’re being presented as heroes. Enjoy it while it lasts,” he added, noting the overuse of clichés in Pelosi’s remarks.

“It’s not so much an ‘argument’, as it is a ‘cliché-bomb,'” he said, that is “designed to convey the impression that important facts are being delivered and profound thinking is taking place.”

Pelosi declared that America’s “democracy is what is at stake.”

“The president leaves us no choice but to act. He is trying to corrupt, once again, the election for his own benefit. The president has engaged in abuse of power undermining our national security and jeopardizing the integrity of our elections,” she claimed.

“Maybe we are being too literal here, but what is she telling us?” Carlson asked.

“Pelosi is telling us that in order to honor the spirit of Benjamin Franklin, we must suspend our democracy in order to preserve it,” he said.

“There was a time when America, the left was sharp and clear right enough to see the irony in a line like that. We have to torch the village to save it, sure we do, makes sense,” he added. “Liberals in 1975 would’ve laughed Pelosi off the stage.”
