Tom Fitton: ‘Schiff coup report’ is full of ‘falsehoods, fabrications, smears, and misstatements’

Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton slammed the impeachment process against President Trump as an “unrivaled” abuse of power and thinks Republicans should just boycott upcoming hearings.

The founder of the conservative watchdog group called out Democrats for violating Trump’s constitutional rights after Tuesday’s release of the impeachment inquiry report by the House Intelligence Committee.

Fitton tweeted about the “remarkable” assault on the president’s rights and cited reports that indicated Committee Chairman Adam Schiff would not disclose how Democrats obtained phone records for Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and others, including the committee’s ranking member, Rep. Devin Nunes.

Fitton slammed Schiff’s “coup report” as one filled with “falsehoods, fabrications, smears, and misstatements.”

He ripped into Democrats in an interview with Fox Business host Lou Dobbs on the eve of the House Judiciary Committee’s first public impeachment hearing.

Democrats in the House of Representatives are choosing to abuse their power, Fitton contended on “Lou Dobbs Tonight” Tuesday, “for the petty goal of protecting Joe Biden.”

“They spent some time in there trying to defend the indefensible on Joe Biden and the Ukraine,” he added, wondering how the impeachment report could even help Democrats gain any more votes against the president.

Dobbs noted the presence of a “scent of doubt” rising over the “chosen path” of Democrats and wondered if that would play into the abandonment of their game of “pretend impeachment inquiry.” But Fitton contended that their “speeding up” of the process indicates Democrats hope to win if they put impeachment to a quick vote.

“They are in an urgent rush,” he said, pointing to the Iowa caucuses, which kick off in February, and other upcoming events as the 2020 presidential race gets into full swing.

But according to a senior member of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s team, a vote by all of the members of the House is unlikely to happen before Christmas.

Fitton called the highly political impeachment inquiry report an “embarrassment” for the House as Dobbs brought up Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing and the fact that no fact witnesses and only four legal scholars – all but one of whom are Democrats – are set to testify.

Dobbs wondered aloud if the scholars were on hand to “say that they have some sort of high view of impeachment here that permits this kind of scurrilous, low-life behavior on the part of Adam Schiff and his cronies.”

“You can have all the scholars you want,” Fitton responded. “It’s not going to justify an abuse of the Constitution and abuse of the president’s due process rights. They’ve already decided to convict him, at least in the impeachment process here.”

“I’m beginning to think that maybe the Republicans should not show at these hearings, they’re so outrageous in terms of abuse of the Constitution.”
