Trump unloads to world about ‘deranged maniac’ Adam Schiff on overseas trip

President Trump minced no words in his comments on House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, calling him a “maniac” and a “deranged human being.”

The president tore into the California Democrat after being asked about the impeachment efforts against him during a press appearance with Canadian President Justin Trudeau on Tuesday at the NATO summit in London.

The president slammed the “unfair, witch hunt hearings” as just “nonsense” and a waste of time, noting the restrictions on Republicans as far as witnesses and lawyers. Trump reiterated that the White House would not be participating with the impeachment hearing scheduled for Wednesday and said he looks forward to GOP witnesses testifying in the Senate where it is not a “total fix” like the House.

“What do you want to learn from the Adam Schiff testimony?” a reporter asked, referring back to the president’s remarks about wanting to hear from the Democrat.

“I learn nothing from Adam Schiff,” Trump replied bluntly.

“I think he’s a maniac. I think Adam Schiff is a deranged human being,” he added. “I think he grew up with a complex for lots of reasons that are obvious. I think he’s a very sick man and he lies. Adam Schiff made up my conversation with the President of Ukraine. One of the reasons people keep talking about it is that’s what they saw.”

Trump was referring to Schiff’s “parody” summary of the July phone call between President Trump and Ukraine President Zelensky. The committee chair came under fire for fabricating a version of the call as he opened up the House Intelligence hearings in September.

The president slammed the performance in his comments Tuesday, noting how many remember Schiff’s version as if it was the actual transcript from the call.

“We have a perfectly beautiful three or four-page transcription. And then in the other case, a two-page transcription of the conversation,” he told reporters.

“A lot of people didn’t read that,” he added, saying a friend had and said “‘I didn’t like what was said.'”

“I said, ‘where did you see it? Did you read it?’ ‘No, I didn’t read it. I heard Adam Schiff give it.’ I said ‘that’s not what was said,'” Trump continued. “I sent him a copy of what was said.”

“This guy is sick. He made up the conversation. He lied. If he didn’t do that in the halls of Congress, he’d be thrown into jail. But he did it in the halls of Congress, and he’s given immunity. This is a sick person. He’s a liar,” the president said, adding that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi “knew he was lying ” when she defended him.

“These people are deranged,” the president concluded.

His comments come just one day before the House Judiciary Committee kicks off the first formal impeachment hearing. Democrats in the House Intelligence Committee are expected to vote on an impeachment report which will be released to the Judiciary panel.

Meanwhile, Republicans in the House responded with a more-than 100-page report refuting every point in Schiff’s report and declaring that the “evidence does not support” the accusations against Trump.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told reporters Monday that Schiff is a “fact witness” in the impeachment inquiry and it would be “great” if he is called to testify.

“Is Adam Schiff going to testify? Because he’s a fact witness. That would be great,” Conway said, adding a promise. “I’ll tell you what, if Adam Schiff testifies, I’ll show up on behalf of the White House.”
