Adam Schiff gives Democrats 24 hours to review, sign off on impeachment report

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff reportedly plans to circulate his just-completed impeachment report on President Donald Trump for just 24 hours before forcing a final binding vote on the matter.

“Lawmakers on the panel will get a 24-hour review period, according to internal guidance sent to committee members,” Politico confirmed on Saturday.

It’s unclear why they need to even review it, unless they played no role in helping draft the report. In fact, it’s also unknown who exactly wrote it.

However, in describing the report, NBC has referred to it as “Chairman Adam Schiff’s impeachment report,” which suggests that he himself wrote it.

Either way, he intends to begin circulating the report on Monday — after which he plans to force a final binding vote on the matter on Tuesday.

Of course, this is technically unnecessary, given as the committee’s Democrat majority is reportedly fully intent on approving the report so that it may be sent to the House Judiciary Committee and part two of the impeachment proceedings may commence.

But to make matters even more laughable, even this step is unnecessary. Why? Because Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler has already scheduled his first round of hearings to begin this upcoming Wednesday and even invited the president to attend them.

It’s almost as if everything was set in motion long beforehand …

The Republican members of the Judiciary Committee have for their part demanded that Schiff be forced “turn over ALL documents, evidence, and information — in their unredacted form” so that the committee can make a fully informed decision.

They’ve also taken the chairs of the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees to task for rushing a process that they argue should be far more comprehensive.

“This rush to impeach a president is anomalous,” Judiciary Committee ranking member Doug Collins wrote in a letter to Nadler late last month on behalf of him and his Republican colleagues. “The impeachments of district court judges … have virtually always taken well over a year of investigation and consideration and have included the hiring of dedicated staffs and committee resources to properly handle the grueling investigative work and solemnity impeachment demands.”

Conversely, the Democrats’ impeachment of Trump has lasted mere months. Or at least the formal process has, though the party has technically been grumbling about impeachment since the day the president stepped into office.

“In contrast, this majority is attempting to impeach the President in approximately two months, in an apparent attempt to be done by the December holiday break so that the Senate can conduct a trial before the Iowa caucuses. The fairness of the impeachment process should not be sacrificed at the altar of a few Democratic senators’ campaign schedules,” Collins’ letter continues.

He concluded by arguing that if Democrats intend to remain committed to effectively overturning the results of the 2016 election, they should at least make the impeachment process “fair to the President and the people who elected him.”

Thus far it’s been unfair and unjust, Republicans have claimed.

It doesn’t help that a majority of Democrats reportedly supported impeachment against the president even before the whistleblower scandal emerged.

It also arguably doesn’t help that Nadler’s own impeachment proceedings will reportedly reference Russian collusion, never mind that the Russian collusion delusion hoax and conspiracy theory has long been debunked.

As for why both Schiff and Nadler seem hellbent on rushing the impeachment process, renowned commentator Byron York has speculated that it’s because of the upcoming 2020 presidential election.

“At the moment, there are six Democratic senators running for president … Instead of campaigning, though, they will be chained to their desks in the Senate chamber in Washington for the duration of a Senate impeachment trial. That’s not the best way for a candidate to spend the weeks leading up to caucuses and primaries,” he notes.

He suspects potential impeachment fatigue may also play a role as well.

“Some recent polls have shown public support for impeachment leveling off and even tipping downward,” he argues. “The public has already been through years of the Trump-Russia investigation, culminating in this year’s aborted effort by Democrats to impeach the president on the basis of the Mueller report. Then, in September, Democrats turned on a dime and sought to impeach him in the Ukraine matter.”

Meanwhile, the president’s approval rating among black Americans has reportedly quadrupled, according to three pollsters: Rasmussen, Emerson and Marist.
