Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman — the Soviet-born impeachment witness being championed by Democrats — is demanding that Fox News “retract and correct” an opinion that attorney/law professor John Yoo stated on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News opinion show.
Vindman’s lawyer is David Pressman, a former Obama aide.
Pressman slammed Yoo’s suggestion that some people might think that Vindman could have committed espionage when he advised Ukraine while undermining Trump’s policies while working in the Trump White House.
In the letter, Vindman’s attorney wrote: “The Segment was not true. It has now been repeated by some of the most powerful people in the world. It is causing great pain. We ask you to retract the coverage, correct the record, and publish the truth.”
While Vindman is whining over someone’s opinion of him, keep in mind that he is accusing President Trump of treason.
In a statement, Fox News said: “As a guest on Fox News, John Yoo was responsible for his own sentiments and he has subsequently done interviews to clarify what he meant.”
So in addition to thinking that he (not the President) sets U.S. foreign policy, Alexander Vindman thinks he can silence and censor the opinions proffered by guests on a Fox News opinion program.
John Yoo went to Harvard University and graduated from Yale Law School. A former U.S. Supreme Court clerk, Yoo is currently a law professor at UC Berkeley and was previously the Deputy Assistant U.S. Attorney General in the Office of Legal Counsel at the Department of Justice.
In other words, Yoo’s stellar legal background is off-the-charts. Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman — a mid-level bureaucrat — wants Yoo to shut up for stating his opinion on a cable opinion program.
This is the segment that Vindman is fuming over:
On the Oct. 28 episode of the Ingraham Angle, Laura Ingraham said: “Here we have a U.S. national security official who is advising Ukraine while working inside the White House, apparently against the president’s interest.”
Yoo replied: “I find that astounding. Some people might call that espionage.”

Predictably, leftists immediately attacked Yoo. He responded in a USA Today op-ed, saying he never called Alexander Vindman a spy.
However, Yoo underscored that Ukraine did engage in espionage. Yoo wrote:
“Critics descended upon me with accusations that I had claimed Vindman to be a double agent or had committed espionage. This could be as far as possible from the truth. I have tremendous respect for a decorated officer of the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Iraq War.
“I thought the Ukrainian contacts sounded like an espionage operation by the Ukrainians. We are deluding ourselves if we don’t recognize that the Ukrainians are engaging in espionage; both friendly and rival governments conduct it all the time, as do we.”
Yoo — who is not a Trump supporter — then warned Americans about the dangers of the Democratic Party abusing impeachment to undo a national election.
“Our framers designed impeachment, in part, to remove a president who abused his foreign affairs powers by elevating his personal or political interests above the national interest.
But they also did not want Congress to use impeachment as a partisan tool to control the president, which would destroy the separation of powers between the legislative and executive branches.
They surely would have worried that impeachment under these circumstances would undermine the ability of future presidents to conduct a vigorous foreign policy, which they argued depends on secrecy, speed, unity and dispatch.”
Meanwhile, it’s unlikely that Vindman’s lawyer will fire off retraction letters to Benghazi hero Mark Geist or Rob O’Neill (the Navy SEAL who killed bin Laden) for torching him as a “traitor” and a “disgrace to all who have served.”
Why? Because they’ll probably tell him to go to hell. Because this is America and we have free speech.
