‘What did you just say?’ Kellyanne Conway torches Wolf Blitzer for not-so-subtle personal blow

White House Senior Advisor Kellyanne Conway torched CNN’s Wolf Blitzer live on the air after he asked her about comments made by her husband George Conway.

The White House counselor slammed the anchor and CNN for “embarrassing” itself by playing the video clip of her husband’s criticism of President Trump when he appeared on MSNBC Wednesday during coverage of the House’s impeachment hearing.

Blitzer introduced the video clip by telling Conway that he was going to ask a political and “substantive question/”

“A final question, a sensitive question, and it’s a political question. It’s a substantive question. I don’t want to talk about your marriage,” Blitzer said, causing Conway to laugh. “I know that there are issues there. Your husband George Conway is a lawyer…”

“What did you just say?” Conway asked, surprised. “Did you just say there are issues there? … Why did you say that?”

“I don’t want to talk about your marriage. I don’t want to. I want to talk about a substantive point that your husband George Conway — he was on television all day yesterday during the first day of the impeachment hearings — and he said this about the President of the United States…” Blitzer said, attempting to remedy the situation.

“So before you play the clip, which I haven’t seen, why? Why are you doing that?” she pressed.

“Because he’s a legal scholar, he’s a lawyer, and he was really going after the President of the United States, and he was all over television yesterday…”

“And… and he’s married to me?” she asked. “You should not have just said to your audience, ‘I don’t want to talk about your marriage, I know there are issues.’ Why did you say that? Why would you say there were issues?”

But Blitzer continued to insist that she watch the video clip and answer his question on “substance.”

“The problem with Donald Trump is, he always sees himself first. Trump is all about Trump,” George Conway, a vocal critic of the president, had said. “And that’s why it was inevitable he’d get himself into this soup once again. And that’s what this is all about. He’s using the — he was using the power of the presidency. Its most unchecked area, foreign affairs, to advance his own personal interest as opposed to the country’s.”

“That’s his opinion,” Conway reacted on CNN Thursday, she also slammed MSNBC. “I don’t think MSNBC was lacking in anti-Trump voices.”

“Where is the shame, where is the introspection?” Conway asked.

“It’s the same stuff all the time. What you just quoted is said every day by other voices but you wanted to put it in my husband’s voice because you think somehow that that will help your ratings or that you’re really sticking it to Kellyanne Conway,” she said following the clip. “And let me be very clear you didn’t stick it to Kellyanne Conway.”

But she was far from done as she delivered a scathing rebuke to Blitzer.

“I think you embarrassed yourself and I’m embarrassed for you because this is CNN now?” she asked

“I looked up to you when I was in college and law school,” she added. “I would turn on CNN to see what Wolf Blitzer had to say about war, famine, disruption abroad. I really respected you for all those years as someone that would give you the news and now it’s what somebody’s husband said on a different network.”

Conway’s reprimand was followed by her telling Blitzer: “You’ll stay in my prayers.”

The exchange immediately sparked reactions on social media.
