CNN pundits like Jeffrey Toobin are pouting because House Democrats have decided not to compel the testimony of acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and disgruntled former National Security Adviser John Bolton.
Toobin claims Mulvaney and Bolton might be able to offer damning testimony against President Trump in the Democrats’ doomed impeachment efforts.
“It’s a big sacrifice to give up those two witnesses,” Toobin said.
After Mulvaney and Bolton refused to testify, the Democrats decided to avoid a drawn-out court battle to compel their testimony. Toobin thinks this is a mistake.
“I think the Democrats are making a choice here which I don’t know is the right choice,” Toobin said. “There are two witnesses who could really talk about what Donald Trump himself said about the relationship with Ukraine, because they are the ones who saw him every day. You have Mick Mulvaney, the chief of staff, and John Bolton, the national security adviser. And both of them have refused to testify so far.”

A dejected Toobin added: “They’ve said they’re not going to testify absent a court order. As you heard from Congressman [Denny] Heck, [the Democrats] are not going to court. They simply think they have enough without these two witnesses. That’s a big sacrifice to give up those two witnesses.”
The anti-Trump CNN panel glumly conceded that the Democrats “don’t have weeks or months” to rush this sloppy impeachment through before the end of the year. This is because Thanksgiving recess is coming up, as are the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Congress will be in recess during this time.

However, a forlorn Toobin wishes the Democrats would waste more taxpayer money by fighting this in court — like they do everything else that President Trump does.
“I don’t know why you give up on these witnesses without even trying to expedite a court hearing,” Toobin said. “Maybe it is too slow. And maybe they’re too risky. I think if you want to know the facts, you would really want to hear Mulvaney and Bolton.”
Earlier this week, four high-level advisers to President Trump defied subpoenas from the House of Representatives — one day after the Department of Justice concluded that they are “absolutely immune” from Congressional subpoenas.

In a letter to the White House, Assistant Attorney General Steven Engel explained: “The Executive Branch has taken the position for decades that ‘Congress may not constitutionally compel the President’s senior advisers to testify about their official duties.’”
The Democrats are running up against a hard deadline to complete this slipshod impeachment before the end of 2019. Why? Because the crucial Iowa Democratic Caucuses kick off on Feb. 3.
Ideally, Democrats want to impeach Trump in the Dem-led House of Representatives before then. However, Democrats have obviously not thought this through.
As BizPac Review reported, if the House votes to impeach Trump, the proceedings then move to the Senate. There, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell could schedule a six-week impeachment trial starting in January.

That would force Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, and Kamala Harris off the campaign trail because all senators are required to attend a trial.
It would be disastrous for a candidate to abruptly stop campaigning right before the Democratic Iowa caucuses.
In addition to the inconvenient timing of the botched impeachment trial, the Republican-led Senate could call witnesses like Hunter Biden to testify.
Hunter’s damning testimony about his dad, former Vice President Joe Biden, could sink the entire Democratic Party just as the election cycle is kicking into high gear.
