Ilhan Omar at Sanders rally: I am honored ‘for a president who will fight against western imperialism’

On Sunday night, Rep. Ilhan Omar slammed the United States for its “imperialism” and perpetrating “genocide” against Native Americans as she proclaimed her support for socialist 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. “I am beyond honored and excited for a president who will fight against western imperialism and fight for a just world,” she declared. “I am excited, I am excited for President Bernie Sanders!”

Omar’s rebukes of America were delivered onstage during a Bernie Sanders rally at the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. The event was essentially a radical, far-left love-fest that featured not only Sanders and Omar, but also Keith Ellison, Minnesota’s attorney general.

Omar and Ellison represent the extreme left of the very liberal Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) party, whose members have mostly endorsed Sen. Amy Klobuchar. But there is an obvious core of unabashed socialists in the state. They came far short of filling Williams Arena on Sunday, but did deliver a level of misguided working-class enthusiasm that approached the intensity of rallies for President Trump.

It appears that the arena was less than half full, with the entire upper level empty, even though Prince’s band was there to stir up the crowd.

Omar, one of the members of the infamous “squad” of far-left freshman congresswomen who are taking turns appearing at Sanders rallies, spoke to her hometown faithful for about 20 minutes.

“Together we are going to send a powerful message with this president,” Omar said, directing an attack at Donald Trump. “Your efforts to coddle white supremacy, to ban Muslims from entering the United States, to call people at neo-Nazi rallies ‘very fine people’ will fail!”

“And just as a matter of fact, none of us are going back,” Omar shouted at the cheering crowd. “We’re here to stay.”

The congresswoman’s district includes all of Minneapolis and some suburbs. In spite of infuriating many of her constituents as well as Americans from around the country during her first term, she retains a rabid local following of ill-informed voters who also naturally are attracted by Sanders’ radical Marxist-based platform.

Omar and Sanders also picked up the gun-grabbing crusade that was previously led by failed candidates Eric Swalwell and Beto O’Rourke:

Given the blinders worn by many populating the far-left demographic, it may not matter how offensive Omar is to traditional American sensibilities. But the vast majority of voters out there would have to see Omar’s political support as a liability to Sanders rather than an asset.

Certainly, President Trump’s comments to the overflowing crowd at his rally at Target Center in Minneapolis a month ago drew roars of appreciation when he blew smoke Omar’s way:
