President Trump and first lady welcome trick-or-treaters: 2019 spooky White House decor best ever!

With House Speaker Nancy Pelosi looking to regain control of the news cycle after the announcement Sunday from President Donald Trump that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had been killed, the president was joined by first lady Melania Trump Monday evening to celebrate their third Halloween at the White House.

Against the backdrop of Pelosi announcing that the House will vote this week on a resolution to formalize and establish the parameters of their partisan impeachment inquiry — in effect, to legitimize an inquisition that was already underway — the first couple handed out commemorative candy to tiny dragons, ghouls, ghosts, and other creepy-crawly creatures.

All of which took place against a beautiful Halloween backdrop.

A Halloween display of enchanting forest trees was set against the South Portico, with branches wrapped around the columns climbing the Truman Balcony. The East and West staircases were lined with pumpkins.

Mrs. Trump was stunning as usual, wearing what appeared to be a leather patchwork trench coat by Michael Kors, retailing at $5,990. The coat was a perfect match for the Halloween setting and the first lady’s free-flowing auburn hair. The beautiful coat was offset with her traditional black heels.

The United States Air Force Strolling Strings played Halloween-themed tunes on the South Portico porch. The ensemble played theme songs from the Harry Potter films,  “Ghostbusters,” and “Bewitched.

Trump and his wife were introduced to “The Addams Family” theme song and the first couple handed out treats for well over a half-hour.

There were lots of fun things for visiting kids to do, according to a statement from the first lady:

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will have out of this world objects for kids to look at as well as a display of an EVA Space Suit.   The Department of Agriculture will feature a tractor for the guests to explore while the Department of the Interior will give out Junior Ranger Explorer and Fishing books, badges, and stickers including Buddy Bison stickers.  Department of Labor and Department of Education will both offer unique photo opportunities with step and repeat backdrops specific to their entities.  The United States Postal Service will have spooky collection boxes and a Postal truck for kiddos to see.  Children will also be able to check out the Presidential Limo known as “The Beast,” which is being brought in by the United States Secret Service.

Melania Trump had joined her husband Sunday night to watch game 5 of the World Series at Nationals Park, in Washington, D.C.

After being greeted with a chorus of boos from a decidedly liberal crowd, children with smiling faces made for a nice change of pace.

The president certainly seemed to be enjoying himself as he interacted with the kids.

Even if the media was reluctant to report on the fun-filled festivities, as coverage was scant.

Here are a few other photos of the evening’s festivities:
