‘Walk-Away’ leader confronts ‘Black in the age of Trump’ panel with April Ryan in fiery exchange

Trump supporters confronted CNN analyst April Ryan and other media figures at a political convention during a panel on being “Black in the age of Trump.”

The Politicon panel in Nashville, Tennessee, unraveled at the end as gay former liberal Brandon Straka, the founder of the WalkAway campaign, accused Ryan of being “the biggest liar in this room.”

After a black MAGA-hat wearing Trump supporter challenged Ryan and other panelists on Sunday over their characterization of minorities who support the president, Straka jumped in to expose the American Urban Radio Networks reporter and vocal Trump critic.

“Speaking of lies, I want to talk to April Ryan, the biggest liar in this room,” Straka, the New York City hairstylist who launched the #WalkAway campaign in 2018, said after calling out the executive editor of Above the Law, Elie Mystal.

“Speaking of lies, let me tell you something, my middle name is truth,” Ryan said as she stood up and appeared to be leaving the stage. “You don’t want this.”

“You’re the one walking away, sweetheart. Come back and answer my question,” Straka challenged as the crowd became more rowdy.

He went on to introduce himself to the audience as Ryan stormed off the stage, saying repeatedly, “I have to go.”

“The reason why I walked away from the Democratic Party is because CNN lied to me,” he said. “The liberal media is lying to you. April Ryan is lying.”

Fox News noted that they “tried interviewing Ryan after the event but she declined, citing other obligations.”

The fiery exchange followed Mystal being confronted by Jimmy James, a black Trump supporter who was wearing a Make America Great Again hat. He called out Mystal after his claims during the session comparing the MAGA hat to the Ku Klux Klan hood.

“They are self-identifying for you who they are and what they are about,” he said after accusing the president of giving people a “license” to self-identify with racism, bigotry and misogyny.

Former MSNBC host Touré ended the session and as he and Ryan, Mystal and author Malcolm Nance remained on the stage, James made it clear he was not buying what they were selling. James posted video of the exchange on YouTube.

After struggling to get a chance to even ask a question, James schooled the panelists.

“You guys are advocating for Democrats. These are the people that put policy that put people I know … in jail right now,” he said.

“You are sitting here looking at black men with MAGA hats like we are the problem. No sir, it is you that is the problem,” James continued, as Mystal claimed Democrats had policies that helped “everybody.”

“Trump has policies that he believes only help his own voters,” he added as Straka entered the scene at this point.

“That’s a lie,” he rebutted.

Later, Straka tweeted that he had “told the truth” about Ryan.

The liberal reporter dismissed the “disrespect” she encountered during the panel, telling one supporter she “moved on.”

Twitter users doubled down on Straka’s remarks and applauded his stand against leftist hypocrites.
