Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris boycotted a criminal justice event in South Carolina on Oct. 26 because the group hosting it gave President Trump the “Bipartisan Justice Award” for reforming criminal justice laws that disproportionately affect the black community.

The legislation — called the First Step Act — grants nonviolent offenders early release from jail. The law also provides programs to reduce recidivism by helping inmates successfully transition back into society.

President Trump signed the bipartisan-supported law into effect in 2018. The First Step Act was championed by many on the Left, including Kamala Harris and TV star Kim Kardashian.

Instead of celebrating the strides President Trump has made in reforming criminal justice, Harris threw a tantrum and boycotted the event at the last minute because it gave Trump an award.

Meanwhile, Kamala’s rivals Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gabbard, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren all attended the event, which was held this weekend at Benedict College in South Carolina.

Harris explained her last-minute withdrawal in a statement. The showboating Kamala hijacked the criminal-justice event with her virtue-signaling.

“Donald Trump is a lawless President. Not only does he circumvent the laws of our country and the principles of our Constitution, but there is nothing in his career that is about justice, for justice, or in celebration of justice.”

“When it became clear Donald Trump would receive an award…I cannot in good faith be complicit in papering over his record.”

President Trump reacted on Twitter by mocking the “badly failing” Harris.

He pointed out that she’s boycotting a “very wonderful, largely African-American event today because yesterday I received a major award…for being able to produce and sign into law major Criminal Justice Reform legislation.”

Trump noted that the First Step Act “will greatly help the African-American community (and all other communities)” and that the Obama administration had failed to pass the law.

Trump added: “This — and best unemployment numbers EVER — is more than Kamala will EVER be able to do for African-Americans!”

Kamala Harris — who was the former attorney general of California — has come under fire for her dismal record on criminal justice.

At the Democratic primary debate in July, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard destroyed Harris for her horrendous track record.

“I want to bring the conversation back to the broken criminal justice system that is disproportionately negatively impacting black and brown people all across this country.

Senator Harris says she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor and that she’ll be a ‘prosecutor president.’ But I’m deeply concerned about her record.

There are too many examples to cite, but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.”

Tulsi Gabbard continued: “Kamala Harris blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row until the courts forced her to do so. She kept people in prison beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labor for the state of California. And she fought to keep [the] bail system in place that impacts poor people in the worst kind of way.”
