In a filing submitted this week, former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s attorney, Sidney Powell, claimed to be in possession of documents and texts that show how disgraced former FBI special agent Peter Strzok and his paramour, disgraced former FBI attorney Lisa Page, used lies and deceptions to engineer a false case against her client.
Powell’s first claim is specifically that when Strzok and his colleagues initially interviewed Flynn after allegations emerged that the then-Trump campaign official had, in late 2016, spoken with then-Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak about removing sanctions against Russia once Trump took office, they left the interview feeling that he’d spoken the truth.
And that truth was that Flynn genuinely had no recollection of speaking with Kislyak about sanctions. The claim that Strzok’s colleagues, if not also Strzok himself, believed Flynn and found his testimony to be sincere is backed by evidence:

Powell’s second claim is that following the interview, Strzok held a meeting with Page, then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and other officials in which they discussed a plan to doctor their interview notes (which were contained in a form known as a 302) to frame Flynn.
The plan was reportedly executed after the media broke a report on Feb. 10, 2017, claiming via “senior intelligence officials” that Flynn had indeed spoken with Kislyak about removing sanctions overnight.
“Overnight, the most important substantive changes were made to the Flynn 302,” the filing reads. “Those changes added an unequivocal statement that ‘FLYNN stated he did not’ — in response to whether Mr. Flynn had asked Kislyak to vote in a certain manner or slow down the UN vote. This is a deceptive manipulation because, as the notes of the agents show, Mr. Flynn was not even sure he had spoken to Russia/Kislyak on this issue. He had talked to dozens of countries.”
“Second, they added: ‘or if KISLYAK described any Russian response to a request by FLYNN.’ That question and answer do not appear in the notes, yet it was made into a criminal offense. The typed version of the highly unusual ‘deliberative’ 302 by that date already included an entire section from whole cloth that also serves as a criminal charge in the Information and purported factual basis regarding ‘Russia’s response’ to any request by Flynn. The draft also shows that the agents moved a sentence to make it seem to be an answer to a question it was not.”
I want to make sure everyone is reading all of this. This is an absolutely stunning filing. I don’t even need to make comment. Here we learn more texts about Strzok and Page and the Flynn setup. They completely edited the 302s to make it appear as though Flynn said things he did not and to frame him. Straight up. They edited their 302. pic.twitter.com/24h6HC74l0

The proof of all this, Powell claims, are newly uncovered text messages exchanged between Strzok and Page during their infamous affair.
Moreover, she alleges that the government kept a lid on these texts until Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in December of 2017, which was the very same month that the Department of Justice publicized them.
“Not only did [prosecutors] not disclose a single text message before Mr. Flynn agreed to plead guilty, but [prosecutors] apparently managed to control the press on the issue until the plea was entered on December 1, 2017, in … court,” the filing reads.
“It defies credulity to suggest that it was only unlucky for Mr. Flynn that the story [about Strzok and Page] broke the very next day.”

New Page/Strzok texts also include this post-Flynn interview analysis of Strzok.

The last piece of the puzzle involves disgraced former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.
Powell claims that right before David Ignatius of The Washington Post ran the report that preceded Strzok and Page’s 302 edits, Clapper told him to “take the kill shot on Flynn.”

These stunning findings come amid reports that Attorney General Bill Barr and U.S. Attorney John Durham’s investigation into the predicates of the Russia probe has been upgraded into a criminal investigation.
“The move gives Durham the power to subpoena witnesses and documents and to impanel a grand jury that could bring criminal charges. Durham has been examining whether the government’s intelligence collection efforts related to Trump associates were lawful and appropriate, both during the 2016 presidential campaign and after President Trump was inaugurated,” CBS News has confirmed.
Whether Powell’s claims will be factored into the investigation remains unclear. It’s also unclear whether all this will be enough to save Flynn, though his supporters are certainly hopeful over the prospect.
