Dem Rep suggests draconian tactic to force Trump aides to testify, MSNBC Mika’s all ears

Only weeks after radical anti-Semitic Muslim Rep. Rashida Tlaib spoke of arresting Trump administration officials who refuse to comply with her colleagues’ subpoenas, another Democrat has upped the ante by demanding the officials’ be denied pay.

“If a staff member, a federal employee refuses to meet with Congress, they should be in a position where they lose their salary for a period of time,” Rep. Jackie Speier, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said Thursday morning to MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski.

Listen to her draconian proposal below:

“Right,” Brzezinski, a far-left so-called “journalist” who’s previously falsely accused President Donald Trump of wanting mass shootings to occur, replied in agreement.

“We should use inherent contempt, which we haven’t done, which would bring people to the House floor. They could be questioned there and then if they don’t comply,” Speier continued without facing even an iota of pushback over her radical proposal.

“Inherent contempt, what is that? What does that mean, how do you pull that trigger?” Brzezinski then asked in hushed excitement.

“Well, it’s done very simply by the House taking action to hold someone in inherent contempt, and it was used over a hundred times in the last two centuries. but we haven’t used it here since 1935,” the congresswoman replied.

“Would that solve the problem of the lack of access to information, people, and answers?” Brzezinski then asked without once noting that there may be legitimate reasons for the Democrats’ “lack of access.”

“I think that money always solves problems, doesn’t it?” Speier said. “If you’re losing your salary or being fined, then there is a reason to comply with the law.”

FYI, this same woman is aiming to replace the late rep. Elijah Cummings as the chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee.

But is there any chance of her authoritarian dream coming true? Most likely not.

The Atlantic notes that previous attempts by Congress “to withhold the salary of executive officials” have been met with resistance from the courts on the grounds that “such attempts [are] infringements on the president’s constitutional power to remove officers.”

That Speier would even contemplate taking such a potentially unconstitutional action against the Trump administration is itself appalling, though also very consistent with how the current crop of congressional Democrats has been handling themselves.

In early October, Tlaib giddily spoke to a crowd of supporters in Detroit about the possibility of arresting Trump administration officials and throwing them in the hole:

Back in February, one power-hungry Democrat congressional veteran, New York Rep. Nydia Velázquez, threatened a 16-year-old conservative activist after he made fun of her on social media by telling him he ought to be afraid of people like her.

Velázquez never apologized for the threat or even deleted it. Nor did “journalists” like Brzezinski ever try to hold her accountable for her clear-cut authoritarianism.

Look:

And just last week Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren ran a text ad on Facebook disparaging the social media platform for allowing the president to advertise freely on its platform like every other candidate running for office.

Dovetailing back to the discussion between Speier and Brzezinski, the MSNBC host, of course, made no attempts to relay the other side of the story to her audience.

The other side simply is that the White House is being denied due process.

“[Y]ou have denied the President the right to cross-examine witnesses, to call witnesses, to receive transcripts of testimony, to have access to evidence, to have counsel present, and many other basic rights guaranteed to all Americans,” the president’s counsel explained in a letter sent earlier this month to top Democrats.

“You have conducted your proceedings in secret. You have violated civil liberties and the separation of powers by threatening Executive Branch officials, claiming that you will seek to punish those who exercise fundamental constitutional rights and prerogatives. All of this violates the Constitution, the rule of law, and every past precedent. Never before in our history has the House of Representatives-under the control of either political party-taken the American people down the dangerous path you seem determined to pursue.”

It’s like a Chinese finger trap. The more that the Democrats try to deny the president and his officials their constitutional rights, the more Trump and his officials fight back and reject subpoenas.

And frankly, the latest threat — this one by Speier — will likely only further inflame tensions.
