Brother of Sandy Hook victim calls Joe Biden’s recollection a ‘lie’

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was challenged over claims he made in a video about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The former vice president claimed in a new video that he met with every family member of those killed in the 2012 Connecticut massacre in which 20 children and six adults were killed. But one man is pushing back on what he is calling a “lie” by Biden.

“The issue of gun violence has been a concern of mine for a long, long time,” Biden said in the video created by a group co-founded by former Rep. Gabby Giffords, D-Ariz., and her husband, Mark Kelly.

“What really got to me though, really firsthand, was what happened up at Sandy Hook,” he continued.

“I think I met with every one of the parents,” he added, “and … the families of those who were lost.”

Joseph Theodore “J.T.” Lewis remembers things differently.

“This is a lie,” Lewis, who was 12 when his 6-year-old brother Jesse was killed in the attack, tweeted. “Obama came to Sandy Hook and met with every family. Joe Biden DID NOT.”

Lewis also noted that his family was not offered a ride on Air Force One like some of the other families because they did not support the president’s gun control efforts.

The 19-year-old, now a Republican candidate for the Connecticut State Senate, was a student at Newtown Middle School at the time of the shooting that killed his brother. He reiterated that former President Obama visited Sandy Hook days after the massacre, meeting with families, but Biden was not there.

Years later, Biden did speak to Sandy Hook family members, according to CBS News, but it was not clear if all of the affected families were represented at that June 2016 event.

Lewis also noted that this isn’t the first time Biden has gotten his facts twisted, recalling how the Democrat got it wrong again in August when he claimed he was the vice president at the time of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Fla.

Biden “is either a liar or he’s losing his mind,” Lewis tweeted, referring to the 2018 shooting in which 17 people were killed.

His tweets got the attention of the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr. who responded simply, “Yikes.”

His words of gratitude for the president earned Lewis a shout-out and he celebrated meeting Trump and first lady Melania Trump earlier this year.

Twitter users reacted to Lewis calling out the former vice president and another one of his memory lapses.
