Joy Behar, co-host of “The View,” defended Hillary Clinton’s attempted smear of 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, saying that if Gabbard isn’t a “Russian asset,” she could be a “useful idiot” for the Kremlin.
Clinton’s smear of the congresswoman from Hawaii is widely recognized as payback for Gabbard’s support for Bernie Sanders in 2016 over Clinton.
Last week, on a podcast, Clinton said: “I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who’s currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate. She’s a favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far.”
In that same breath, Clinton also pointedly called 2016 Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein a “Russian asset.”
In the interview, she did not name Gabbard as the current candidate she was referring to, but her spokesman Nick Merrill later confirmed to the media as much, saying: “If the nesting doll fits. … This is not some outlandish claim. … This is reality.”
For conservatives looking to try to comprehend leftist thought processes, “The View” plays a valid role. The show is a clear window into a representative Democrat cage of rage and bewilderment in which the overloaded, wobbling hamster wheel is about to fly off its axis–an increasingly common state for those in bondage to the party line.
Opening up the discussion on Clinton’s accusations, Sunny Hostin said: “For me, honestly, Hillary’s been dead-on with so many things. She told us about Russia. She told us about the probable interference during the debates. She was Secretary of State. She has deep knowledge about world issues. I thought, where’s the lie? You know, I’ve often said that Tulsi is sort of the Trojan horse in this. She’s polling at only 1.2%, yet she’s still in the race. You have her being touted by people like Fox News personalities like Tucker Carlson. She’s endorsed by the Russians …”
“David Duke,” Behar interjected.
“Well, she has renounced that,” Hostin said. “But she’s never renounced the Russian support. There have been about 20 Russian bots and websites that have supported her since she’s announced her run for the presidency.”
“She tweeted back and called Hillary a warmonger,” Behar said with a look of disbelief and wonderment. “That does not do anything for me.”
Returning to Clinton’s claim of Gabbard being groomed by the Russians, Behar said: “She hasn’t denied it. She hasn’t said anything in her tweets, ‘how dare you, it’s outrageous, of course I’m not.’ She didn’t say that. She’s just going after Hillary. And like you said, Hillary was right about almost everything.
“She’s been exonerated with that nonsense about her server already,” claimed Behar. “And this idea that she’s doing this to get back in the race. That she said that also, Tulsi, I don’t buy that either. I don’t think Hillary wants to go through it again. So I think there’s something–I don’t say that Tulsi is an agent. I just think that she could be a useful idiot the way that Trump is a useful idiot. That they see something and say, let’s play this.”
“Another point–the Republican party knows that they cannot win without interference from Russia and maybe voter suppression,” continued Behar. “They cannot win. People in this country are against him now. And so they have to have it and she’s a perfect person to throw right in the middle of this. She’s a perfect foil. I don’t think that she wants to be, maybe. She’s coming here in a couple of weeks, so …”
Suddenly it seemed to occur to Behar that she might have to soon go face-to-face with Gabbard, an Iraq combat veteran and current major in the Hawaii Army National Guard.
Abby Huntsman came to the rescue and went on to more intelligently propose her completely different view that Clinton was “clueless” in her comments, saying that “she still has an ax to grind from 2016” and that Hillary’s comments “give the Russians exactly what they want. They want the Democratic party to be divided.”
