As expected, on Monday evening the House voted along party lines to table the Republican resolution to censure Democrat Adam Schiff. And as expected, a self-righteous Schiff responded with an attack on the GOP saying, “they lacked the courage to confront the most dangerous and unethical president in American history.”

“It will be said of House Republicans,” he tweeted, “When they found they lacked the courage to confront the most dangerous and unethical president in American history, They consoled themselves by attacking those who did.”

In a 218-185 vote, the Democrat-controlled House rejected the resolution brought to the floor by Republicans that said the chair of the House Intelligence Committee “misled the American people” and made “a mockery of the impeachment process, one of this chamber’s most solemn constitutional duties.” Schiff had presented a fictional “parody” as fact during a September committee hearing with Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire.

The House vote came in divided precisely along party lines, with all Dems voting to table the resolution and all Republicans voting in favor. Independent Justin Amash, who earlier this year left the GOP, sided with Democrats.

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy blasted Schiff after the Democrats failed to hold him accountable for his actions. “Each member of Congress must uphold a high standard of honesty and integrity,” he said. “When it comes to matters of our national security, that responsibility is even greater. Chairman Schiff has fallen short in his duty. From claiming he had evidence of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign to covering up his committee’s relationship with the whistleblower, he has demonstrated a pattern of lying to the American people on matters of intelligence.”

Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Schiff “a great patriot.”

In a prepared statement, Pelosi wrote:

“Chairman Schiff is a great American patriot.  Our country is extremely well-served by his serious, smart and strategic leadership to protect our elections, national security and democracy – which sadly stands in stark contrast to Republicans in the Congress who cover up the truth, look the other way when the President invites foreign governments to interfere in our elections and vote against legislation to secure the ballot from foreign attacks.

“What the Republicans fear most is the truth.  The President betrayed the oath of office, our national security and the integrity of our elections, and the GOP has not even tried to deny the facts.  Instead, Republicans stage confusion, undermine the Constitution and attack the person of whom the President is most afraid.

“The American people want the truth.  The House will proceed with our impeachment inquiry to find the facts and expose the truth, guided by our Constitution and the facts.  This is about patriotism, not politics or partisanship.”

For those keeping score in the games being played by liberal media outlets, MRC  reported that – of the network morning shows on Monday – only NBC actually mentioned the pending censure story, “in a dismissive tone,” while ABC and CBS completely ignored the story. In fact, right after Schiff’s dishonest parody on the floor of Congress, none of the three major networks reported on it, keeping the issue off the radar for many Americans.

Rep. Andy Biggs, who introduced the Schiff censure resolution on the floor of the House, tweeted afterward: “Adam Schiff may not have been held accountable tonight, but the American people are very much aware of his reckless disregard for the truth. They will not tolerate his calculated words and actions as he continues his secret impeachment inquiry to undermine the will of Americans.”

Appearing on “The Ingraham Angle,” Biggs revealed:  “I happen to know that there’s already an ethics referral out there for Mr. Schiff. That’s kind of a closed-door thing. The American people need to know that we’re fighting for the president. The president needs to see that, the American people need to see that, and the Republicans need to see that.”

Before the vote, Rep. Debbie Lesko said she believes Schiff needs to be held accountable for engineering a “political hit job” on President Trump. “I imagine that the Democrats are going to kill the bill to censure Adam Schiff because this whole thing is a political hit job against the president,” she said. “Adam Schiff … has for two years said he had proof that the president colluded with Russians — that turned out to be false in the Mueller report. Then, made up … what President Trump said to the Ukrainian president, trying to deceive the American public.”
