Dobbs unleashes his wrath on Scalise for GOP betrayal of Trump over Syria

Late Wednesday, Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs repeatedly excoriated House Minority Whip Steve Scalise for siding with House Democrats and against President Donald Trump.

Earlier that afternoon, 129 House Republicans, including Scalise, voted in favor of a Democrat resolution to condemn the president’s withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria.

Isn’t it time to start following this president?” Dobbs said angrily to the congressman during a discussion with him later that evening. “I mean, I don’t understand it. The Republicans — I would think you guys would say, ‘Nancy Pelosi is for it, I sure as hell better be against it!’

The discussion initially began more calmly.

“You voted for it,” the host said to the congressman at the start of the discussion, referencing the Democrats’ resolution. “I don’t understand why.”

Scalise replied by arguing that it’s about trying to contain ISIS.

“Well, it’s really more focused on what is the end game with containing ISIS,” he said. “We’ve got ISIS, and President Trump has been very aggressive at taking the fight to ISIS with a coalition of countries, but also working with the Kurds to finally get ISIS at bay.”

“We know that there are thousands — maybe as many as 7,000+, in addition to their families — who are being held in prisons. We want to make sure they don’t get released from those prisons. There are reports of jail-breaks.”

It was at this point in the discussion that Dobbs made his first interruption.

“How are you going to do that!? How are you going to that?” he asked in frustration.

“Well, we talked to the president at the meeting actually about that,” Scalise replied, referencing the heated meeting held Wednesday afternoon between top congressional leaders and the president. “That was one of the topics we talked about, but Pelosi stormed out before we could get to the details about it. But ultimately, after she left, we did, and the president laid out what his plan is right now to contain those terrorists.”

This response left Dobbs completely baffled. If the president has a “plan” to contain ISIS terrorists in Syria, then again, why did Scalise vote with the Democrats?

“I want to understand this, congressman,” he said. “I really do. Ninety-four percent of Republicans in poll after poll support the president of the United States. The people who voted for him in 2016 voted for him with this promise on the table — that he was going to get our troops out of wars in which they did not belong, out of international police actions, precisely the description of northern Syria.”

It’s actually 95 percent of Republicans.

“Isn’t it time to start following this president?” the host continued. “I mean, I don’t understand it. The Republicans — I would think you guys would say, ‘Nancy Pelosi is for it, I sure as hell better be against it!'”

Scalise responded by going into a lengthy spiel about how he’s opposed Pelosi on a variety of issues (Iran, the Iran nuclear deal, socialism, etc.), while he’s conversely supported the president on a wide number of policy positions.

The congressman even tried bringing up the Democrats’ ongoing impeachment “sham.”

“[T]he voters should decide [who’s president], not Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff behind closed doors like they are trying to do with this impeachment witch hunt,” he said.

But Dobbs clearly wasn’t buying it, as seen in his expression below:

And then came the most brutal interruption of them all.

Do you think voters, congressman, are going to ask of congressmen running for reelection, ‘What did you do for the president at the moment when he needed the greatest support, that he needed people standing shoulder to shoulder with him instead of voting with the damn Democrats on a resolution that the America people and Republicans in the latest survey by 57 percent approve of that troop withdrawal!’” Dobbs hollered in anger.

Congressman, you went against 57% of the voters in that poll. You went against the president who’s been right on issue after issue!

“How in the world can you comfortably line up with Lindsey Graham, who was, by the way, he wanted to work for President Obama along with Senator McCain in Cairo to urge [Egyptian] President [Abdel Fattah] el-Sisi to put the Muslim Brotherhood in the Egyptian government. This man does not have a great record in foreign policy!”

Scalise replied by talking about his support for the president’s plans to impose sanctions on Turkey.

Dobbs eventually concluded the discussion by saying, “I would hope Republicans in the House of representatives would stand with [Trump] as he conducts the most of successful foreign policy in three decades. Steve Scalise, thanks for being with us.”
