After top Democrat leaders stormed out of a Wednesday afternoon White House meeting with President Donald Trump because he’d allegedly said some mean things to them, some critics opined that “[o]ur country’s leaders are children.”
Following the dramatic confrontation over the situation in Syria, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer held a presser outside the White House to complain about the president’s allegedly mean words.
“He was insulting,” Schumer kvetched. “Particularly to the speaker. “She kept her cool completely. But he called her a third-rate politician. He said that there are communists involved and you guys might like that. This was not a dialogue.”
“It was sort of a diatribe, a nasty diatribe, not focused on the facts, particularly the fact of how to curtail ISIS, a terrorist organization, that aims to hurt the United States in our homeland.”
The claim that Pelosi “kept her cool completely” seems to contrast a photo shared to Twitter by the president that shows the House speaker standing alone at the White House roundtable, with a finger pointing at Trump:

“[Y]ou’re going to hear the president say we walked out,” Hoyer added. “We were offended, deeply, by his treatment of the speaker of the House of Representatives. … Unfortunately, the meeting deteriorated into a diatribe, as leader Schumer has said, and very offensive accusations being made by the president of the United States.”
“I have served with six presidents. I have been in many, many, many meetings like this. Never have I seen a president treat so disrespectfully a co-equal branch of the government of the United States.”
To be clear, the Democrats did walk out of the meeting. Moreover, former President Barack Hussein Obama was known to be somewhat of a condescending jerk.
Pelosi has claimed that the president suffered a “meltdown” during the meeting on Wednesday.

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham has offered a different take of Wednesday’s events. In a statement, she contrasted the president’s “measured, factual, and decisive” behavior with that of Pelosi.
“The President was measured, factual, and decisive, while Speaker Pelosi’s decision to walk out was baffling, but not surprising,” she reportedly said. “She had no intention of listening or contributing to an important meeting on national security issues.”
“While democratic leadership chose to storm out and get in front of the cameras to whine, everyone else in the meeting chose to stay in the room and work on behalf of this country.”
Two other highly notable events occurred after the confrontation. First, Pelosi issued a statement to the media calling for America to pray for the president’s mental health.
“I pray for the president all the time, and I tell him that — I pray for his safety and that of his family,” she reportedly said. “Now, we have to pray for his health — because this was a very serious meltdown on the part of the president.”
Last year, the president passed a mental fitness test with flying colors. It’s unclear whether “brain freeze” Pelosi and other notable figures in the Democrat Party — including 2020 contender former Vice President Joe Biden, aka the gaffemaker — would fare as well on the test.
The House speaker also changed her Twitter banner to showcase the photo of her standing up alone at the White House, seemingly berating the president:

Her stunning decision inspired centrist political commentator Tim Pool to opine on Twitter that “Our country’s leaders are children.”
It’s unclear whether he’d been referencing just Pelosi or also the president, who’d tweeted the same photo to his followers earlier in the evening.

The photo has gone viral on Twitter, provoking responses ranging from outright mockery to more intelligent analysis.
“In my 30 years of professional work life … [w]hen there is a heated debate at any meeting. Who ever stands up and starts to point a finger has lost the control and respect of the mee[t]ing,” one critic opined.
“She is a lunatic,” another pithily wrote.
