It’s a battle over one meeting, with two very different takes.
To hear top congressional Democrat leaders tell it, President Donald Trump suffered a meltdown during a meeting at the White House on Wednesday concerning the situation in Syria. Too bad for Democrats, however, the president has proof to the contrary.
In a tweet posted after the meeting, the president uploaded a photo that showed a furious-looking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi standing alone at the White House roundtable, with her finger angrily aimed at the president.
“Nervous Nancy’s unhinged meltdown!” the photo’s caption reads.

Another photo posted shortly thereafter showed the White House roundtable full except for three seats — those of the congressional Democrat leaders who’d stormed out of the meeting and gone on to huff and puff to the media about the president’s alleged “meltdown.”
“The Do-Nothing Democrats, Pelosi and Schumer stormed out of the Cabinet Room!” the caption for this photo reads.

In response to these photos, the House speaker inexplicably chose to make the first photo of her standing alone at the White House roundtable her Twitter “banner.”
The decision provoked confusion and mockery because the photo seemed to belie everything she, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer had claimed while lamenting to the media about their meeting with Trump.
“He was insulting,” Schumer said. “Particularly to the speaker. “She kept her cool completely. But he called her a third-rate politician. He said that there are communists involved and you guys might like that. This was not a dialogue.”
But the very photo that Pelosi has now proudly adopted as her own seems to contradict the Senate minority leader’s claim that she’d “kept her cool completely.”
Let’s be honest.
This was inevitable. pic.twitter.com/Mw9XAwOiU9— Salvador Hernandez (@SalHernandez) October 16, 2019
“[Y]ou’re going to hear the president say we walked out,” Hoyer added. “We were offended, deeply, by his treatment of the speaker of the House of Representatives. … Unfortunately, the meeting deteriorated into a diatribe, as leader Schumer has said, and very offensive accusations being made by the president of the United States.”
But the Democrats did petulantly walk out, which is ironic because it completely contrasts the image that Pelosi appears to be trying to convey to her supporters — that of her being some “powerful” figure who’d “stood up to” the president.
And yes, believe it or not, that’s the exact message that her most die-hard supporters have gleaned.
Case in point (*Language warning):
She looks like the most powerful person in that room to me.

Congratulations @SpeakerPelosi on being a courageous human, advocating for the right thing. It’s awesome to see a powerful woman take on this misogynistic regime. #FuckTrump pic.twitter.com/1eG6iu1wNn

@SpeakerPelosi Love the new banner. The picture is historic. 1 lone powerful woman at a table full of powerful white men. She, the sole representative of diversity, pointing out the problem. And all she gets is insulted by a child with a tantrum. Nice work ma’am!

A strong powerful woman commanding a room full of weak, pathetic, cowardly men. Bravo @SpeakerPelosi

It is an iconic photo of the most powerful Speaker of the House America has ever had.
We absolutely need her at this moment in time, with a corrupt occupant in the White House, selling America to Russia.@SpeakerPelosi was born for this time, to keep our Republic.#MorningJoe https://t.co/QasJZwekpC

It’s unclear how throwing a fit — nobody else at the table, including her Democrat peers, felt compelled to stand up and make a scene — makes one powerful.
It’s also unclear how Pelosi is “representative of diversity,” given as she’s a white woman who lives in one of the richest districts in the country.
The photo of Pelosi ended up being spun and praised by liberals but was the vindication of Trump by conservatives. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy torched Pelosi for typical political theater and blasted her “unproductive” behavior.
In a tweet posted late Wednesday evening, the president doubled down on his original observations.
“Nancy Pelosi needs help fast!” he wrote. “There is either something wrong with her “upstairs,” or she just plain doesn’t like our great Country. She had a total meltdown in the White House today. It was very sad to watch. Pray for her, she is a very sick person!”

So the question now becomes, as asked by Scott Adams, who will the public believe?
Will they go with the Democrats’ claim that it was the president who suffered a meltdown? Or will they side with the president, who’s come equipped with photos showcasing the Democrats’ meltdown?
The betting lounge is now open!
The Battle of the Meltdowns is on! Whose reality will win? It’s Nervous Nancy and The Penguin versus the Brander in Chief! Place your bets! https://t.co/lF1mAfThsY
