On Saturday, President Trump repeatedly expressed his ongoing support for Rudy Giuliani, who is under investigation by federal prosecutors for potentially breaking lobbying laws in connection with Ukraine, according to the New York Times.

The Times’ report stated: “The investigators are examining Mr. Giuliani’s efforts to undermine the American ambassador to Ukraine, Marie L. Yovanovitch, one of the people said. She was recalled in the spring as part of Mr. Trump’s broader campaign to pressure Ukraine into helping his political prospects.”

Giuliani may have violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act, or FARA, according to the Times.

Two associates of Giuliani who helped the Trump lawyer probe former Vice President Joe Biden’s Ukraine involvement were arrested on Wednesday.

The president had lunch on Saturday with the former federal prosecutor and New York City mayor in Sterling, Virginia, in an apparent display of his continuing relationship with Giuliani, who serves as a personal attorney for Trump.

Before the lunch, Trump tweeted: “So now they are after the legendary ‘crime buster’ and greatest Mayor in the history of NYC, Rudy Giuliani. He may seem a little rough around the edges sometimes, but he is also a great guy and wonderful lawyer. Such a one sided Witch Hunt going on in USA. Deep State. Shameful!”

Later in the evening, in a phone interview with Jeanine Pirro on Fox News, the president was asked if Giuliani is still his attorney.

“Yes. And he’s a great gentleman,” Trump said. “A great mayor. Maybe the greatest mayor in the history of New York. He was a fantastic prosecutor. I know nothing about him being under investigation. I heard a report today. I can’t imagine it.”

“He’s a man that looks for corruption, and whatever he does, I really believe, I know he’s a totally honorable man,” he continued.

“You stand behind him in spite of this investigation?” Pirro asked.

“I don’t know if there is an investigation. I just heard it. I find a lot of things you hear, they should look at other people,” Trump responded. “They should be looking at really bad people doing bad things to our country. So no I stand behind Rudy Giuliani, absolutely. Again, he was a crime fighter from day one.”

“What’s interesting about this is that the inspector general referred Andrew McCabe for prosecution one year and six months ago to the Department of Justice,” Pirro said. “Now the New York Times is saying Rudy Giuliani is under investigation for lobbying efforts as it relates to the Ukraine. Within minutes after we hear Ukraine, in light of what’s going on with the Bidens.”

“But what do you know about those two men who have been just arrested who allegedly were working with Rudy Giuliani,” she went on to ask. “They said they had dinner with you at the White House.”

“I don’t know who they are,” Trump replied. “Maybe I met them or took pictures with them because I saw a picture of me with them and others. But I take pictures with a lot of people. I don’t know who they are, Jeanine. You will have to figure that one out for yourself, I guess. I know they are donors. They made political donations to a lot of different people. A lot of politicians over the years, so they are donors. But I have thousands and thousands of donors.”
