Surveillance captures pilot and flight attendant physically brawling on plane in romantic break up

Denver Police Dept.

The cameras are always watching these days, it seems.

Surveillance footage captured the moment a Republic Airways pilot and flight attendant got into a fight last month on a jet bridge at Denver International Airport.

Both the pilot, William Thomas, and the flight attendant, Marisha Sporer, were fired by the airliner in what amounted to an inner-office love affair at 30,000 ft. that went sour, according to ABC News.

In the disturbing footage obtained by the website FlyerTalk, Thomas appears to spit on Sporer, who responds with a slap to the face. The pilot then begins punching her in the body and the face.

A spokesperson for Republic Airways told ABC News there were no passengers on the aircraft at the time of the altercation, though it’s not overly comforting for passengers on the next flight to think that their flight was manned by star-crossed lovers engaged in a violent breakup.

Fortunately, that flight was reportedly delayed to the following day.

“We are aware of a situation that occurred last month involving two of our employees,” the spokesperson remarked. “We investigated this matter and took appropriate action consistent with our belief that such behavior is unacceptable.”

Thomas, 36, and Sporer, 29, were both arrested, charged with assault and disturbing the peace, ABC News reported.

They had been involved in a nearly one year romance, according to court documents, with things taking an ugly turn when Sporer saw something she didn’t like on lover-boys’ cellphone.

A probable cause affidavit detailed what led up to the altercation — the description of the fight is not entirely consistent with what is seen in the video.

“They both agreed to break up so Thomas went onto the plane and sat in the cockpit and Sporer went to the gate,” the affidavit explained. “Sporer became angry and went onto the plane to confront Thomas. Sporer grabbed Thomas by the necktie and slapped him in the face with an open hand three times. Thomas retaliated by grabbing Sporer and striking her in the ribs with a closed fist.”

The unfortunate encounter prompted plenty of debate online about who was at fault, but the consensus seemed to be that they were both to blame.

Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter.
