President Donald Trump targeted Mitt Romney in a Saturday Twitter firestorm where he called the Utah senator and failed presidential candidate a “pompous a**” who “choked” when he went up against Barack Obama.
“Somebody please wake up Mitt Romney and tell him that my conversation with the Ukrainian President was a congenial and very appropriate one, and my statement on China pertained to corruption, not politics,” Trump tweeted, referring to Romney being one of the few Republicans to join Democrats in criticizing the president’s Ukraine phone call.
Trump added that if Romney had been as hard on Obama as he is on him, then maybe the now-senator would have been president.
“If Mitt worked this hard on Obama, he could have won. Sadly, he choked!” Trump said.

The president followed that tweet up by calling Romney a “pompous a**” and recalling how the senator “begged” to be secretary of state when Trump first entered the White House.
“Mitt Romney never knew how to win. He is a pompous ‘ass’ who has been fighting me from the beginning, except when he begged me for my endorsement for his Senate run (I gave it to him), and when he begged me to be Secretary of State (I didn’t give it to him). He is so bad for R’s!” Trump tweeted.

The tweets followed the president calling out the media, specifically The Washington Post and New York Times, and Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff over the current impeachment inquiry over the Ukraine phone call. He said he caught everyone off guard by releasing the actual transcript of his phone call with the Ukrainian president.
The so-called Whistleblower’s account of my perfect phone call is “way off,” not even close. Schiff and Pelosi never thought I would release the transcript of the call. Got them by surprise, they got caught. This is a fraud against the American people!

The Media is “Fixed” and Corrupt. It bears no relationship to the truth. The @nytimes & @washingtonpost are pure fiction. Totally dishonest reporting!

“If the President asked or pressured Ukraine’s president to investigate his political rival, either directly or through his personal attorney, it would be troubling in the extreme. Critical for the facts to come out,” Romney previously tweeted about the Ukraine controversy.

The senator has shown no support for the president since the transcript of the call and the whistleblower complaint have actually been released, showing there was no wrongdoing despite what Democrats would have the American people believe. He has also completely ignored accusations of corruption against Joe Biden, which are undeniably at the center of this entire controversy.
Trump is not the only person sick of Romney. He has also been called out by other conservatives like Laura Ingraham and Rudy Giuliani, the latter of whom recently referred to the Utah senator as a “bitter child.”
Romney has earned plenty of praise from committed anti-Trumpers though. Joe Walsh, who has announced a challenge against Trump in 2020, tweeted that he wants more Republicans to take the Romney stance on the president.
“It’s a badge of honor @MittRomney. Trump called me a ‘loser Congressman & failed radio host.’ This is what happens when people stand up to the bully. @realDonaldTrump is a coward. Come on Republicans, #BeBrave, put country before party, & condemn Trump’s disloyalty & corruption,” Walsh tweeted on Saturday.
