What was supposed to be an interview about the current Ukraine phone call crisis President Donald Trump is dealing with quickly turned into Corey Lewandowski being accused by Fox Business’ Lisa Kennedy Montgomery of being drunk on air.
Invited on the show to talk about Democrats working to impeach Trump and the president’s constant lashing out at the effort, Lewandowski was at one point straight-up asked if he had been drinking before the taping.
“Corey,” Kennedy said in the middle of Lewandowski, a former Trump campaign manager, ranting about Adam Schiff, “did you have a little merlot with dinner?”
“No, should I have?” Lewandowski responded.
“You sound a little slurry,” Kennedy said laughing.
“No, look, look, what I’m mad about Kennedy is that they’re still blaming the president for this conversation with the Ukraine president Zelensky and what this is really about is people who don’t love this country as much as this president,” Lewandowski said in an attempt to get the conversation back on track.
“I love this country,” Kennedy said, visibly holding in laughter. “I love this country so much that I would like to hug it until it squeaks.”
Clearly not taking the interview seriously anymore, Kennedy’s studio can be heard laughing. Lewandowski was working a little slower than the rest so he missed the joke.
“Yes, but Kennedy,” he said, inspiring an eye-roll from Kennedy.
“Oh, no,” she said, laughing. “Yes, dear?”
“There’s no other president in the history of our country before this one who’s had so many leaks and that should be a real concern for our national security apparatus,” Lewandowski said.
Kennedy made a point of drinking from the cup in front of her while the former campaign manager spoke.
Once he was done talking, she smartly ended the interview.
“Thank you, Corey. Great to have you,” she said.
“Maybe a cup of coffee,” she said as she ended the segment.

While Lewandowski was able to mostly stay on point, there is definitely something off in the interview. He can definitely be heard slurring his words and he looks tired. Maybe it’s not alcohol. Maybe he’s just tired and exhausted, but Kennedy had good reason to point out that something was a little off. It probably would have been best to end the interview instead of stringing the man along.
Lewandowski has always been a controversial figure in politics. He was accused of assault by a journalist while working on Donald Trump’s campaign. Trump-supporting singer Joy Villa later accused him of sexual assault. And even his recent appearance at a House hearing earned him criticism from both sides of the political aisle for his seemingly abrasive behavior.
He’s not going anywhere though. Lewandowski has made in clear — and he reiterated this in the “Kennedy” interview — that a Senate run is likely in his future.
