NY City bans speech that might offend illegal aliens, up to $250,000 per offense

This is the inevitable consequence when putting omnipotent moral busybodies on the left.

New York City may be the first city in America to regulate speech in regard to the legal term “illegal alien,” as used by the U.S. government.

At the expense of U.S. citizens, Democrats have gone all-in with their advocacy for foreign nationals in the U.S. illegally — see illegal immigrants. But the liberals in New York City have declared it’s against the law to threaten to call immigration authorities on someone or refer to them as an “illegal alien” when motivated by hate, the New York Post reported.

The paper cited the 29-page directive released by City Hall’s Commission on Human Rights, which includes fines of up to $250,000 per offense.

“‘Alien’ — used in many laws to refer to a ‘noncitizen’ person — is a term that may carry negative connotations and dehumanize immigrants, marking them as ‘other,’” the memo states. “The use of certain language, including ‘illegal alien’ and ‘illegals,’ with the intent to demean, humiliate, or offend a person or persons constitutes discrimination.”

In addition to the above, the directive includes harassing people over their accents or limited grasp of the English language.

Several examples were provided by the Post:

“A hotel prohibits its housekeepers from speaking Spanish while cleaning because it would ‘offend’ hotel guests or make them uncomfortable,” reads one hypothetical.

“An Indian immigrant family complains to their landlord about mold and cockroaches in their unit. The landlord tells them to ‘just deal with it’ and threatens to call ICE if they file a complaint in housing court,” reads another.

“A store owner tells two friends who are speaking Thai while shopping in his store to ‘speak English’ and ‘go back to your country,’” reads a third.

In effect, Democrats are outlawing what is perceived as bigotry … but they are also outlawing free speech.

While the left preaches relentlessly about President Trump not being above the law, they are adamant that illegal aliens should not be expected to adhere to immigration laws in this country and actively create sanctuaries for them.

The Post noted that the Commission on Human Rights was clear that the directive is “at least in part, a rebuke of federal crackdowns on illegal immigration.”

“In the face of increasingly hostile national rhetoric, we will do everything in our power to make sure our treasured immigrant communities are able to live with dignity and respect, free of harassment and bias,” agency commissioner Carmelyn Malalis said.

Further aid for those eschewing our laws was seen Thursday when the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs announced a joint $1 million investment with the state to ensure legal services to those facing imminent deportation, the paper reported.

The reaction online suggests that New York City, which recently invited back failed presidential candidate and mayor Bill De Blasio, will soon get a rude introduction to the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
