Lou Dobbs on whistleblower fiasco: Intel community is insanely ‘hostile’ to Trump

Fox Business host Lou Dobbs slammed the media for fomenting yet another “contrived, left-wing-inspired political firestorm” concerning whether President Donald Trump had pressured Ukraine’s president to investigate former vice president Joe Biden.

As BizPac Review reported, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko flatly denied unsubstantiated reports by the Washington Post and the New York Times making this claim.

Moreover, even anti-Trump network CNN admitted that the anonymous whistle-blower did not have firsthand knowledge of the phone call.

CNN Ukraine whistleblower did not have direct knowledge

Fox News correspondent John Roberts (who is not a Trump fan) told Lou Dobbs that his own reporting confirms that the whistleblower filed his complaint against Trump based on second-hand information.

So basically, this media spectacle is based entirely on hearsay and innuendo.

Roberts said: “This whole controversy surrounds a complaint that was delivered to the intelligence community Inspector General by this whistleblower. Sources tell Fox News that this whistleblower did not have firsthand knowledge of telephone conversation on July 25 between President Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.

Roberts continued: “What’s more, the complaint that was delivered to the Inspector General makes it clear that this whistle-blower did not have firsthand knowledge.”

Despite this, the media breathlessly ran with yet another anonymous “bombshell” rumor that has now been debunked.

While Democrats in Congress are fuming that they did not receive a copy of this whistleblower’s complaint, Roberts says there were several good reasons for this.

“We’re learning more about why this complaint was not delivered to Congress. The general counsel for the office of the Director of National Intelligence said, “The complaint involves privileged communications by persons outside of the intelligence community. Therefore, the DNI lacks unilateral authority to transmit such materials to intelligence committees.”

The general council’s office also consulted with inspector general about this, and here’s what general counsel said: “We determined that the allegations did not fall within statutory definition of an ‘urgent concern,’ and did not require the continental balance complaints to be transmitted to intelligence committees on Capitol Hill.”

President Trump has denied any wrongdoing during his telephone call. And the Ukrainian foreign minister said he knows what was talked about, and he underscored that there was “no pressure” put on President Zelensky by President Trump.

Trump suggested that he might release a partial transcript from that July 25 call to prove he did nothing wrong.

However, John Roberts told Lou Dobbs that this would set a dangerous precedent that no president should consider putting into motion.

“There are reasons to not do it. First of all, precedent. I don’t remember any time when a private telephone conversation between the president of the United States and a foreign leader has been released.

Second, slippery slope: If the president releases a transcript of this phone call, do Democrats on Capitol Hill then say, ‘We want your calls with Putin as well.’

Then, do Republicans reciprocate by saying, ‘We want to seeing all of President Obama’s calls with world leaders.’ Then there is the issue of, ‘Would you have to redact sections for national security measures of classification?’

If there one redaction in a transcript of a phone call that Democrats are so hungry to get their on, they’re going to say invalidates the whole thing. So you have to take all this into consideration.”

Dobbs said the Democrats would whine no matter what President Trump does, so there’s no point pandering to them.

Dobbs added: “We know this whole thing is built on hearsay from a person without standing in the intelligence community. We know that the intelligence community itself has been hostile to this president … The agency chiefs had some role in an effort to subvert the president of the United States.”
