Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh found himself an unlikely ally in comedian Bill Maher.

With more unsubstantiated allegations of sexual misconduct resurfacing against Kavanaugh, Democrats have renewed their red-hot hatred for the man. Maher — who Rashia Tlaib has called for a boycott of — made it clear on his HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday night that he does not think this is a winning strategy for the left.

Maher began the panel discussion by bringing up what he called the “Kavanaugh effect.” Maher theorized that Democrats’ previous hostility towards Kavanaugh led to the party losing four red-state Senate seats.

“People did not like going after a guy for what he did in high school,” Maher said. “It looked bad — and now Democrats are talking about impeaching him again?”

Tim Naftali, a CNN commentator and former director of the Nixon Library in California, defended Democrats’ opposition to Kavanaugh and said there is a “dark cloud” above justice.

“From high school?” Maher said in response.

Author Andrew Sullivan jumped into the conversation and agreed with Maher.

“It’s not a dark cloud. He probably did some s****y things in high school, drunk … We are in an inquisition on people’s PCness their entire lives —” Sullivan said.

MSNBC analyst Heather McGhee then jumped in and broke off Sullivan’s point. When he asked for a chance to finish his thought, she got quite condescending.

“I’m sorry, I think you’ve already made your point, Andrew. You were going on about PCness. We got it,” she said.

This did not sit well with Maher, a comedian who is no fan of political correctness.

“That’s not a conversation,” he said to McGhee. McGhee and Sullivan then went back and forth and McGhee jumped into a rant about “character.”

Again, this did not sit well with Maher.

“So you’re saying at 17, you have to have your fully-formed character?” Maher said.

Maher later noted that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has praised Kavanaugh.

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg said glowing things about him,” he said.

In case anyone was getting the wrong idea though, Maher also admitted he personally does not like Kavanaugh.

“I think he’s an a**hole. I think he shouldn’t be on the Supreme Court,” he said.

“Sometimes you have to do a fight even if you can’t win,” Naftali said, jumping back into the conversation.

“But what were you like at 17?” Maher responded.

He later added, “I’m just telling you what the politics is … People don’t think you should go back to age 17. It just strikes them as preposterous and by the way, it’s counterproductive for Democrats winning.”

The New York Times recently published — and then walked back — a story accusing Kavanaugh of exposing himself to a woman at a party in college. They claimed there was corroboration for the story, but later offered up an update saying that several friends of the alleged victim said she did not remember the incident. It also included the new detail that the alleged victim had not been interviewed or made any other comments about the alleged incident.
