Gutsy fmr. DNC Chair Brazile: ‘I get in trouble’ for not bashing Trump

In a frank admission, Fox News contributor Donna Brazile admitted that she gets in “trouble” with the left when she refuses to call President Trump a racist.

The former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee appeared Tuesday on Fox Nation’s “Reality Check with David Webb,” and the show’s namesake pushed her on her thoughts of the president.

“Some of your Democratic colleagues on the stage call President Trump a racist. Do you think Donald Trump is a racist?” asked Webb.

Brazile tried to skirt the question by saying she doesn’t know Trump.

“I don’t know Donald Trump,” she said. “I don’t know his heart, but here’s what I tell people. As a woman of color, I get asked this question more than I’ve ever been asked before. I don’t know Donald Trump. I know his policies.”

“I want President Trump to be the president of all Americans and not just his base, and not just Republicans, he’s my president,” Brazile added.

Webb recognized that her response was “a fair answer,” but asked Brazile why other Democrats struggle with treating Trump in a similar manner.

“Do you know that I get in trouble when I don’t say that? People on my left accuse me of — ‘You know that he’s a racist,'” Brazile replied. “I don’t know what’s in his heart, but I’ll tell you what I disagree with Donald Trump on — I disagree with his tone, his tenor, because we are all Americans. We are all fighting for the same thing and I know that the president wants everybody’s respect, but to get respect you also have to give respect.”

Webb asked Brazile if Trump should get respect from many of the left?

“He’s been under assault for two years by a number of people from the Resistance, the leaders,” the Fox Nation host observed. “This is really seeing it for what it is. If you’re under assault constantly, you get defensive.”

Brazile responded with the common misrepresentation of Trump’s words and actions, be it about securing the border against criminal illegal aliens or restricting travel from a handful of Muslim nations seen as friendly to terrorism.

“The president started his political journey by demonizing Mexicans, by saying Muslims should not be here. You get what you give,” she told Webb. “I don’t need to preach because I am a simple Catholic girl, and I believe in grace and forgiveness. I just want this president to be as good as this country.”

To her credit, Brazile did say that she was not going to get into the name calling.

“I’m sick and tired of people asking me, ‘Is he a racist?'” she said. “You know what, I got to speak for myself. I can’t speak for him or what’s in his heart.”
