Sticker shock: Michelle Obama charges up to 4,200 per ticket for tour

First, there were reports the Obamas were buying a $15 million waterfront mansion on tony Martha’s Vineyard and now we learn that former first lady Michelle Obama is charging up to $4,200 to attend an upcoming speaking engagement.

And who can forget that Obama broke out the bling back in April for her “Becoming” book tour, with the New York Post reporting that she was sporting a pair of $16,250 diamond hoops from Vhernier’s “Pop” collection?

The only question is, can they now be officially declared members of the liberal elite?

Tickets for Mrs. Obama’s event, “A Moderated Conversation with Michelle Obama,” held at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., were going for as high as $4,200 for a “suite-level ducat,” the Post reported.

Prime seats and a “meet and greet” will run you $2,500, while floor seats are priced as high as $1,300.

Not that Obama isn’t thinking about the little guy — you know, the people they always claim to be looking out for. The great unwashed can get a cheat seat ticket for a paltry $144 on Ticketmaster.

Interesting, the Post reported that the former first lady is making five other stops in Canada, along with an appearance in Texas.

As for the elitist label, the Obamas are doing well for themselves these days.

Their net worth is estimated at $40 million by GoBankingRates, although the New York Post puts the figure at $135 million.

At a minimum, their fortune is 30 times greater than when they entered the White House in 2008, according to Business Insider.

“From speaking at events around the world to writing memoirs and signing a massive production deal with Netflix, the Obamas’ life after the White House has been full and very lucrative,” the business news site said.

Let’s not forget that Barack Obama once said, “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.”

Apparently, the Obamas feel they have yet to reach that point.

As conservative Wayne Allyn Root tweeted: “Dems are the new party of the rich…and dumb. Anyone who spends $4,000 on 1 ticket to hear Michelle speak is far too rich… and really, really dumb.”

Here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
