Air Force plan to refuel near Trump’s Scottish resort approved under Obama, reports show

Last week some in the American mainstream media ran reports suggesting that the U.S. Air Force’s decision to refuel some of its planes at an airport located near the Trump Turnberry, a Scottish luxury resort that’s owned by President Donald Trump, was rooted in corruption.

These same media outlets also took aim at a U.S. Air Force squadron that stayed overnight at the resort itself during a stopover in Scotland last March.

The reports were based on a dubious investigation by House Democrats.

But new information unearthed Thursday now strongly suggests that the reverse is true — that there’s no corruption at all involved in the Air Force’s business dealings with both the Trump Turnberry resort and Scotland’s Glasgow Prestwick Airport.

“The controversial arrangement by the U.S. Air Force to refuel at a Scottish airport near President Trump’s Turnberry golf resort apparently was signed under the Obama administration, according to multiple reports,” Fox News reported Friday.

“In October 2016, Prestwick signed a three-year basing and fuel supply deal with the Defense Logistics Agency, helping it almost double its income from fuel sales to £3m last year,” The Guardian confirmed nearly two years ago.

The Defense Logistics Agency is a part of the U.S. Department of Defense.

In a statement this week, the Air Force further noted that between 2015 and 2019, its airmen stayed at the Trump Turnberry only 40 times out of 659 total overnight stays in the general area.

“We reviewed the vast majority of the 659 overnight stays of Air Force crews in the vicinity at Glasgow Prestwick Airport between 2015 and 2019. Approximately six percent of those crews stayed at the Trump Turnberry,” the Air Force reportedly said.

“As a practice, we generally send aircrews to the closest, most suitable accommodations within the government hotel rate. The review also indicated that about 75 percent of the crews stayed in the immediate vicinity of the airfield and 18 percent stayed in Glasgow.”

These findings came only days after a number of outlets began breathlessly reporting on this burgeoning “scandal.” The initial reported spurred the president into issuing the following denial:

The tweet was met with widespread mockery and derision by far-left Democrats who’d bought into the media’s coverage of this alleged “scandal.”

“In early Spring of this year, an Air National Guard crew made a routine trip from the U.S. to Kuwait to deliver supplies,” Politico reported last Friday. “What wasn’t routine was where the crew stopped along the way: President Donald Trump’s Turnberry resort, about 50 miles outside Glasgow, Scotland.”

The report continued by noting that the House Oversight Committee, led by anti-Trump zealot Rep. Jerry Nadler, has been investigating the stopover since April.

“The inquiry is part of a broader, previously unreported probe into U.S. military expenditures at and around the Trump property in Scotland,” Politico’s report continues.

“According to a letter the panel sent to the Pentagon in June, the military has spent $11 million on fuel at the Prestwick Airport — the closest airport to Trump Turnberry — since October 2017, fuel that would be cheaper if purchased at a U.S. military base. The letter also cites a Guardian report that the airport provided cut-rate rooms and free rounds of golf at Turnberry for U.S. military members.”

Congressional Democrats genuinely believe that the Trump administration is purposefully putting money into the airport’s hands to boost its profile and thus increase travel to the general region. Why would the president do that? To allegedly boost his resort and stop alleged ongoing “financial losses.”

“Given the President’s continued financial stake in his Scotland golf courses, these reports raise questions about the President’s potential receipt of U.S. or foreign government emoluments in violation of the U.S. Constitution and raise other serious conflict of interest concerns,” they wrote to the Pentagon three months ago.

“In order to fulfill its responsibilities under the Constitution, the Committee is seeking information related to expenditures at both Prestwick Airport and the Presidents’ nearby Scotland golf resorts.”

The growing evidence seems to hint that – much like the Russia collusion delusion hoax the Democrats chased after for over two years – their newfound investigations into the links between Trump’s properties and the federal government will lead absolutely nowhere.
