A grand jury in Oregon has reportedly declined to indict two Portland locals who allegedly assaulted a Trump-supporting man at a bar late last month over the man’s MAGA hat.

“Adebisi Okuneye, 23, and Leopold Hauser, 22, no longer face criminal allegations in the Aug. 24 altercation at Growler’s Taproom on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard,” The Oregonian reported Thursday, citing confirmation from the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

The duo made headlines after a Trump-supporting man, Luke Lenzner, claimed that they’d attacked him outside of Growler’s Taproom for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.

At the time, Lenzner told local media that upon arriving at the bar for a date with his wife, he was confronted by patrons upset by his MAGA hat. He claims they surrounded him, pushed him outside, tried to snatch his hat from the top of his head and eventually assaulted him.

“I got mobbed by everybody that was in that bar outside. People came from the inside out — just circled me and my wife,” he said. “Surrounding me, like literally surrounding me, pushing me.”

“I’m just trying to get through, trying to stop the person from hitting me, from taking my hat, and then I get sucker punched [by Okuneye and Hauser].”

His allegations certainly fit a demonstrable pattern across the country of President Donald Trump’s supporters being harassed and assaulted over their political beliefs.

Earlier last month, a New York City man of color was allegedly brutally beaten by a mob over a MAGA hat he’d purchased earlier that morning.

“I was walking on Canal [Street], it was some sort of event and I got jumped for wearing this hat,” victim Jahangir Turan, 42, told local media at the time.

“He started cursing at me — saying ‘Trump hat, blah, blah, blah’ — and basically, one kid took my head and bashed it against a scaffolding pole. It all happened within ten seconds. I jumped out, crossed the street and then called the cops. This is my situation right now.”

The evidence in Lenzner’s case appeared to be just as convincing.

“Photos of Lenzner with a black eye and bloody face garnered national attention,” The Oregonian notes. “He also gave interviews on local television about how he was ‘mobbed’ and beaten for simply displaying his support for Trump in Portland, a liberal city known increasingly for its violent clashes between left- and right-wing activists.”

Fact-check: TRUE.

Three months ago left-wing thugs in Portland pummeled an independent journalist with milkshakes reportedly made with quick-drying cement. The assault against journalist Andy Ngo, who’s been falsely linked to the right despite his nonpartisan reporting, left him with a brain hemorrhage.

“I know who hit me, who assaulted me,” Lenzner told The Oregonian, adding that Portland’s “radical” politics were to blame for the lack of an indictment. “In any other city they would have been indicted.”

Possibly, though to be fair, some of the evidence that the jury had to work with didn’t look so great for him. For one, while Hauser reportedly admitted to authorities that he’d stared Lenzner down to express his disdain for the MAGA hat, he claimed it’d been Lenzner who’d started the confrontation.

“Hauser, court records show, told police that he and his friends at the bar had taken offense to Lenzner’s hat and stared him down,” The Oregonian notes. “Okuneye, a black woman, told police that Lenzner later came out of the bar and approached her, allegedly calling her an expletive and asking: ‘How do you like my hat?'”

“Lenzner told police that Okuneye ‘got in his face.’ Lenzner then pushed back to create distance, he said. That’s when Lenzner said Hauser punched him in the face, court records show.”

The second piece of evidence is a video that appears to show Lenzner “threatening and picking fights with patrons at a different bar earlier in the evening.”

What’s particularly troubling about this video, which may be seen below, is that it shows Lenzner claiming to have served in the military. However,  he’s since admitted that was a lie:

“I served for f–king you!” he screams in the clip above.

In a statement submitted to local station KATU after the video above went viral, Lenzner claimed that he’d lost his temper and misspoke because of the treatment he’d faced.

He said “the video did not capture the moments when someone put a toilet seat cover on his head and someone threw something at him,” according to KATU. “He said someone made derogatory comments toward him and was harassing his wife “when we were sitting there minding our own business at the bar.”

“Lenzner also admitted that he never served in the military, but that he has family members who have served. He said his comment in the video about serving was said in the heat of the moment and that it came out wrong. He said he regrets saying it.”

The patrons at this particular bar have refuted his allegations, claiming that, one, someone had only placed a toilet seat cover next to Lenzner, not on his head, and two, nobody had thrown anything at him.
