In the left-wing state of Colorado, it’s now “legal” for an illegal alien to obtain a driver’s license but illegal for a legal U.S. citizen to fish without a fishing license.
Country music star Dierks Bentley learned part of this lesson the hard way over the weekend when he was ticketed for fishing in Buena Vista’s Cottonwood Creek.
Sometime Monday, he reportedly uploaded a video tweet of himself being ticketed.
“Hey Luke, those fish we caught in the Cottonwood Creek this week here in Buena Vista, we should probably get a fishing license next time because I just got pulled over. You’re next,” he said in the since-deleted video tweet, referencing fellow country star Luke Bryan.
While the tweet and accompanying video are gone, one local station managed to obtain a copy:
Both Bentley and Bryan had been in town for the Seven Peaks Music Festival. It’s believed that the authorities were alerted to their fishing expedition by Bentley’s social media profile.
On Sunday he uploaded a photo to Twitter and Instagram of him holding up a fish and captioned it with a message boasting about how he’d caught three fish in 30 minutes, whereas Bryan had only caught one.
Day 3 off to a good start @SevenPeaksFest! (btw… @LukeBryanOnline only caught one and this is my third in 30 mins…not that it’s a competition…fishing and Seven Peaks is all about community and good vibes…but if it was a competition…I would be crushing him. Just saying) pic.twitter.com/ce3uKyokD0

The country star has reportedly been congenial about the whole matter.
“Bentley says he sure appreciates what [Colorado] Parks and Wildlife does,” station KCNC confirmed. “CPDW answered back hey, you’re welcome back anytime, but get a fishing license.”
However, others do not share the star’s sentiment, in part because of what happened in Colorado four months ago, when Democrat Gov. Jared Polis signed into a law a measure to further expand the state’s illegal community’s access to drivers’ licenses.
“A bill increasing the number of locations where Colorado residents who are in the country illegally can obtain driver’s licenses has become law. Gov. Jared Polis signed the legislation on Tuesday,” the Associated Press reported at the time.
This was part of an at least 5-year-long campaign to cater to illegals.
“Colorado began issuing the special licenses in 2014. Applicants’ fees pay for the program. Under the law, the licenses will become available at 10 Department of Motor Vehicles offices by July 2020. Just three DMV offices currently offer them to new applicants.”
Leading the charge against the left-wing state’s policies is renowned conservative commentator Michelle Malkin, who noted on Twitter that Colorado is also a sanctuary state.
She was joined by a veritable army of ticked-off citizens:

If you’re a US Citizen & break a law you get punished
If you’re an #IllegalAlien & break a law, you get a sanctuary city to live in, a drivers license, AND democrats prevent police from working with #ICE so you don’t get deported#democrat #Privilege #Copolitics #Colorado https://t.co/fhKjhSjsdd

Only citizens are required to follow our laws ?

Mr. Bentley should have known better.. It’s just not right when you have millions of illegals immigrants breaking the law even murder and no one does anything about! ?how do they get away with it!! O that’s right the democrats are protecting them and don’t care about Americans

He was wrong to fish without a license, he gambled & lost & will pay the fine. The difference is, illegals don’t know/don’t care about our laws, that’s why they’re here. Most likely wouldn’t be approached by Law Enforcement to issue the citation. Reverse Racial profiling, for $$$

Take note of the latter two comments. The complaint isn’t that Colorado is necessarily wrong to require fishing licenses. The vast majority of Democrat and GOP states require adults who want to fish to possess a license. What most states don’t boast are policies that aid illegal aliens at the expense of law-abiding, fine-paying U.S. citizens like Bentley.
Colorado officially became a sanctuary state in May, courtesy of Polis again.
“After weeks of uncertainty, Colorado is now a sanctuary state, thanks to recent actions taken by Governor Jared Polis (D), “the Federal for American Immigration Reform reported in late May.
“On May 28, Governor Polis signed into law House Bill (HB) 1124, after putting up a months-long fight against the bill’s original language. It will take effect on August 2. Under the new law, state and local law enforcement will be prohibited from honoring immigration detainers, or requests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to hold a criminal alien already in custody for up to 48 hours.”
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials responded at the time with a stern statement warning that Polis had “codified a dangerous policy that deliberately obstructs our country’s lawful immigration system, protects serious criminal alien offenders, and undermines public safety.”
On the same day that the law went into effect on Aug. 2, illegal alien Miguel Ramirez Valiente killed a father of five when he over-corrected his truck while on the highway and crashed into the deceased victim’s motorcycle. Valiente was reportedly not arrested after the crash.
These 5 children have been permanently separated from their dad
Illegal alien, with criminal history, was evading deportation to stay with his family
He was not arrested after the crash!
Will we see Sean Buchanan’s devastated children on MSM?
