After success of G7, Brennan says world leaders find Trump ‘incompetent’ and ‘delusional’

Former CIA Director John Brennan took his usual bashing of President Donald Trump to another level as he suggested world leaders find him “incompetent” and even “somewhat delusional.”

Speaking with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes Monday following Trump’s attendance at the G7 summit in France, Brennan struck his usual condescending tone in attacking the president, declaring that world leaders “have written off ” his rhetoric and public statements.

“Do you think that over the course of this presidency so far that both world leaders, and global diplomatic corps. and intelligence services, have changed the way they react to this president’s statements” and his style at these kind of events,” Hayes asked his guest on “All In with Chris Hayes” Monday.

Brennan, now a senior national security and intelligence analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, unloaded his own theories about what the president could be saying or doing behind closed doors.

“Absolutely. I think a lot of the leaders have written off what he says certainly publicly,” he replied.

“Also I’m very concerned given his public dishonesty, what dishonesty is he engaged in in the private meetings with world leaders, with those allies of countries that we have worked with so hard for so long. What is he telling them?” he wondered.

“But I think they realize that he is way, way out of his depth, that he is incompetent, but also he is somewhat delusional as far as how he views the world and his inability to grasp the reality of the geo-strategic situation around the globe today,” the ex-CIA chief smugly declared.

He went on to speak for other world leaders by saying they are “just trying to handle Trump the best they can,” adding that even though they don’t “like or respect” him as a person, “he still, unfortunately represents America on the world stage.”

He continued to push his pompous view, declaring that they’re “trying to be as respectful as they can.”

“Some days I really miss being in the intelligence business, because I would love to find out what it is that these leaders are saying behind the scenes to themselves about Mr. Trump. I could just imagine. And, unfortunately, I think it’s something that we as Americans should be very, very concerned about,” he added.

Earlier in the segment, Brennan had expressed his view on Trump’s comments regarding inviting Russia to rejoin the Group of Seven for next year’s summit, which is set to be held in the U.S.

“It just shows that Donald Trump still does not grasp the seriousness of what it is that Putin has done,” he said, noting Russian President Vladimir Putin and his country’s many “transgressions.”

“For him then to say, gladly, that he thinks they should come back into what would be the G8, despite the unanimous view of those countries previously that because of the annexation of Crimea, because of what they’ve been doing in eastern Ukraine, that Russia does not deserve a seat at the table,” he added.

Trump defended his remarks Monday about considering inviting Russia back to the international group, which was previously known as the Group of Eight before being ousted over its illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014. Perhaps coming too soon after the long Russian collusion delusion, Trump’s suggestion set off Democrats and the left who were convinced there was a story behind the president’s support.

Speaking to reporters Monday at a press conference in Biarritz, Trump contended that Putin was essentially blacklisted because he embarrassed former President Barack Obama.

The president stood his ground on potentially extending an invitation to Putin to attend the economic conference in 2020.

“I don’t know that he’d accept. Those are tough circumstances. He was part of G8 and all of a sudden he’s not in,” Trump said. “Would I invite him? I would certainly invite him. Whether or not he could come, psychologically, I think that’s a tough thing for him to do.”

Brennan, who may himself be under investigation by the Department of Justice for being part of an alleged coup against the president, found Trump’s line of thinking to be “puzzling.”

“It’s still rather puzzling as to why Donald Trump continues to give Putin the benefit of the doubt when, in fact, he should be coming down pretty hard on the Russian leader,” he told Hayes.

He continued to bash the president, who announced he was revoking the former Obama official’s security clearance back in 2018, though the White House reportedly did not follow through.

“It’s bad enough that Donald Trump is so incompetent, in terms of carrying out his responsibilities,” Brennan spouted. “But it’s the dishonesty that I think really hurts this country most.”

Brennan was roasted on Twitter  over his audacity to speak of dishonesty and responsibility.
