House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rallied Democrats for the “tough election” in 2020 by warning them that they have to “be ready to take a punch” as well as to “throw a punch” in the race ahead.
But the California Democrat assured her party members at the Democratic National Committee’s summer meeting that it is “for the children.”

“For them, it’s about money. They’ll put up any amount of money to protect their investments of degrading the environment and the rest. Guns and all that,” Pelosi said about President Trump and the Republican Party at the meeting in San Francisco, California on Friday.
“So you have to be ready to take a punch. You’ve got to be ready to take a punch. And therefore, you have to be ready to throw a punch — for the children!” she said. “Throw a punch for the children.”
She added, “So are we ready to win? Have we decided that we are going to debate our differences, unify behind our candidates?
“Are we going to strengthen our majority in the House? To win the United States Senate for the American people?” she asked to applause as DNC Chair Tom Perez and others stood to their feet.
“To win the White House for America, for America, for our children, for the future?” Pelosi ended as the audience cheered. “Thank you Democratic National Committee! I know that you will make that happen.”
Later Friday, the Democrat leader asked her party to give her some “leverage” on impeachment of Trump, warning that premature efforts to do so could backfire.
“The public isn’t there on impeachment. It’s your voice and constituency, but give me the leverage I need to make sure that we’re ready and it is as strong as it can be,” Pelosi said during a conference call with Democrats, according to The Hill.
“The equities we have to weigh are our responsibility to protect and defend the Constitution and to be unifying and not dividing. But if and when we act, people will know he gave us no choice. If he cannot respect the Constitution, we’ll have to deal with that. It’s about patriotism, not partisanship,” she added.
Pelosi’s remarks Friday came as 2020 Democratic contenders continue to campaign and the House is still in its August recess until Sept. 9.
Her exhortation to fellow Democrats on what they need to do in order to win the race sparked a wave of reaction on social media where many were convinced she had just created the party’s new slogan.

“Throw a punch for the children” is a genuinely amazing quote https://t.co/yNctCHXS6S

I want it on a t-shirt.

Many pointed out — again — the left’s double standard, noting that Democrats are perfectly fine with rhetoric that may incite violence as long as it is coming from them, and is “for the children.”
Imagine if Trump said this.
— mikelemony (@onthevergetime) August 24, 2019
So you have to be violent for the kids. Yep they keep handing GOP the election.
— HaveSuitcaseWillTravel (@HSWT2020) August 23, 2019
i’m old enough to remember when political rhetoric inciting violence was a bad thing

We just did this a few weeks ago. Trump making a Panhandle joke or the rah-rah nature of his rallies = grave threats to be taken seriously, but Nancy saying this or Biden wanting to beat up Trump = meh.
(None of the above inspires violence; my issue is with the double standard)
— Allan (@AllanRicharz) August 24, 2019
But remember, the left isn’t violent at all…it’s just those mean right wingers who are violent
— AccountingDrone (@AccountingDrone) August 23, 2019
Violence is okay, if its for the children.

Aren’t these the people who said a target on an electoral map was directly responsible for a shooting?

And Pelosi’s melodramatic entreaty for the children reminded many on Twitter of one inconvenient truth about the Democratic Party.
How many punches are you throwing for the millions of children you advocate aborting? Inquiring minds want to know.

“Well, at least the children we allow to be born.” https://t.co/cD7Yc5pUAl
— F The Gators (@EERCANE) August 23, 2019
Considering the Dems won’t vote to save babies born alive after botched abortion attempts, no one is buying this ‘for the children’ nonsense from Pelosi. Shameless use of innocents for political gain. Disgraceful.
— Sophist⭐️⭐️⭐️ (@SophistsAwake) August 23, 2019
This coming from politicians who support pedophiles (one running for the presidency), don’t give a crap if illegal immigrants have killed US children and care about illegal immigrant children while encouraging and supporting abortions and infanticide…yeah … for the children
