Conservative commentator and author Michelle Malkin got away with using a certain trigger word on Wednesday night during a Fox News appearance where she discussed the open border policies of modern Democrats.
Asked by “The Ingraham Angle” host Laura Ingraham about how Democrats, especially 2020 hopefuls, can be so “brazen” in their support of open borders and their attempts to undermine both President Donald Trump and immigration officials in their fight to implement the rule of law, Malkin responded by saying the president has simply exposed the left for what they really are.
“President Trump has really put these open border zealots in a corner,” Malkin said, “and he is exposing their true colors every day and they can’t help themselves.”
She went on to call Democrats a “complete and utter disaster” when it comes to immigration policies.
“They want an unfettered flood,” she said.
She then used a trigger word that previously did not go over well when dropped on Fox News.
“They are for invasion,” Malkin said, “and yes, I’m going to use the trigger word that I’ve been using since 2002 when I wrote my first book about immigration.”
The 2002 book Malkin referenced is “Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists Criminals & Other Foreign Menaces to Our Shores,” a book about how America’s laid-back immigration policies invited criminals and sometimes terrorists into the country. The book clearly proves Malkin has been a leader on the issue of illegal immigration for years, and she was using the “invasion” trigger word long before it was “woke” and accepted to call it politically incorrect.
Malkin added that “so little had changed” on the southern border and with illegal immigration until Trump took office.
A Fox News host previously gave serious pushback when a guest used the word “invasion” when discussing illegal immigration.
Art Del Cueto, the vice president of the National Border Patrol Council, described the crisis along the southern border as an “invasion” recently and “America’s Newsroom” anchor Sandra Smith grew uncomfortable with where the conversation was going.
“Hold on,” she said. “Obviously, we have to push back on comments like that. People will take issues with you calling at that. It is obviously a sensitive issue right now.”

To show how low the Democrats have sunk in their immigration rhetoric, Ingraham at one point played a clip of Barack Obama in 2007 admitting that illegal immigrants are driving down wages for American workers and it’s an issue that needs to be addressed.
“If a Democrat candidate for the presidency said that on a debate stage now, they’d be booed off the stage,” Ingraham said.
“The Democrat Party does not care about American citizens, does not care about American victims of illegal alien crime, like in MS-13, and they do not care about American workers,” Malkin said of the modern Democrat Party.
Still at the forefront of the issue of illegal immigration, Malkin has an upcoming book that exposes how many leftists are profiting from illegal immigration and the crisis at the southern border. “Open Borders, Inc.” will be released on September 10.
