Did Rashida Tlaib cancel trip to Israel when she realized she couldn’t charge taxpayers?

Anti-Semitic Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib refused Israel’s offer to let her visit after her failed PR stunt backfired spectacularly.

However, the real reason why Tlaib decided not to visit her 90-year-old grandmother in Israel could be that she’s a cheapskate. Tlaib would’ve had to pay for the costs of her trip out of her own pocket because it was a personal trip, and not a work-related function.

“When Congresswoman Tlaib reapplied for entry into Israel for the sole purpose of visiting her grandmother, she made the entire trip a personal matter,” a senior aide on the House Ethics Committee told the Washington Free Beacon. “At that point, going on her original trip and allowing the sponsoring group to pay for anything would constitute an illegal gift.”

The aide added: “That’s why she couldn’t go. If she got on that plane, she’d probably be breaking the law by accepting an illegal gift.”

As BizPac Review reported, Tlaib is already being investigated for potential ethics violations.

Israel initially refused entry to Rashida Tlaib and fellow Democrat Ilhan Omar due to their support of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Tlaib and Omar also have a long history of racist, anti-Semitic rhetoric.

In 2017, Israel enacted a law that prevents foreigners who support boycotts against Israel from entering the country.

In July 2019, the Democrat-led House of Representatives passed a resolution opposing a boycott of Israel. Both Omar and Tlaib, who are Muslim, voted against the resolution.

Tlaib and Omar were scheduled to visit Israel last month on a trip sponsored by the anti-Israel, pro-terrorist group Miftah, which has praised suicide bombers as “sacrificing their lives for the cause.”

When Israel initially expressed reluctance to let them in, Tlaib and Omar hijacked the news cycle by whining that Israel was being mean to them.

Michael Oren — the former Israeli Ambassador to the United States — says Israel had every right to bar entry to Tlaib and Omar because of their anti-Israel hatred.

“These two members of Congress have supported an organization called BDS, which doesn’t aspire to create a better two-state solution. It aspires to destroy the state of Israel through economic strangulation,” Oren told Fox News (see video).

He added:  “They were being sponsored by [Miftah]…which not only supports BDS, [but] is known for anti-Semitic comments and for supporting terror. No such country would let such people in unless they had a diplomatic reason.”

Oren said that if someone had a history of expressing a desire to annihilate the United States, they too should be blocked from entering.

“If someone shows up to the United States and says, ‘I’m here because I deny the right of the United States to exist and I’m going to work to try to eliminate the United States,’ believe me, that person is not getting into a U.S. airport,” Oren said. “The same thing here is true.”

Sadly, Michael Oren is mistaken: Thanks to today’s far-left Democratic Party, many leftists would openly embrace having someone who despises America enter the country.
