Chris Cuomo on Trump’s Jewish Dems comment: ‘So, are the Jews dumb or disloyal?’

Tuesday evening on CNN, host Chris “Fredo” Cuomo grilled former Trump campaign official David Urban, now a political commentator for the network, on President Donald Trump’s belief that Jews who vote for the Democrat Party are voting against their own interests.

And in doing so, Cuomo seemed to insinuate that the president is an anti-Semite.

The discussion was predicated on remarks the president made earlier that afternoon to reporters.

I think any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat — I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge, or great disloyalty,” he said.

He made the remarks during a broader statement about the Democrat Party’s apparent abandonment of Israel and embrace of anti-Semitic Muslim Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.

Responding to Cuomo’s concerns about these remarks Tuesday night on CNN, Urban argued that the president was trying to draw attention to how blatantly anti-Semitic the Democrat Party has become.

I think the president is asking the questions that … many others have asked,” he said. “Will divisions in the Democratic Party about BDS, about sanctioning Israel and support for Rep. Omar, who’s equated Hamas the terrorist group with the Boston Tea Party, who’s equated Israel with Nazi Germany — I think the president’s trying to highlight that there’s a big, fractious difference in the party.”

The point flew right over the host’s head.

“Are the Jews dumb or disloyal?” he asked in mock emulation of the president.

Except this doesn’t appear to be how actual Jews — including the Jews in the Republican Jewish Coalition — have interpreted the president’s remarks:

The latter tweet by columnist Jeremy Frankel mentioned the need for an “Exodus” of Jews from the Democrat Party. In reality, this “Jexodus,” as it’s been dubbed, has already begun.

Returning to the discussion on CNN, Urban asked, “Chris, are you saying he’s anti-Semitic?”

Cuomo refused to answer, though the answer already seemed clear-cut.

Urban then began arguing that — while he recognizes the point that the president had made — he disagrees with the framing of it. He also suggested the president may regret his remarks.

“Have you never said things you regret? … I don’t agree with it,” he said.

It’s not clear why he pursued this line of argument, given as it seemed to be an admission that Trump had said something wrong. But others, including Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, disagree with that conclusion.

During a debate later that evening on Fox News with left-wing radio show host Ethan Bearman, who appeared to argue that the president’s remarks were more proof that he’s aligned with white supremacists and white nationalists, Kirk smacked the argument down like a fly swatter.

I will give you one fact: President Trump deported an actual Nazi from the country, someone President Obama avoided,” he said.

Fact-check: TRUE.

Last August, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported a true-to-life Nazi collaborator who’d been living in the district of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of Omar and Tlaib’s strongest allies in Congress. And ICE did so at the behest of the president.

“At the order of President Donald Trump, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents removed 95-year-old Jakiw Palij from his Queens, New York, home on Monday,” ABC News reported at the time.

“Justice Department officials say Palij served as an armed guard at a death camp in Nazi-occupied Poland and later lied to American immigration officials about his role in those atrocities when he entered the U.S. after the war.”

Meanwhile, as the Trump administration deported Palij, AOC and her peers in the “squad” continued disingenuously railing against America’s immigration authorities for being Nazis.” It’s not too dissimilar to how members of the left-wing media are now disingenuously railing against Trump for being an alleged anti-Semite.

And not just any alleged anti-Semite, but one who named Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, relocated the U.S. Embassy to the historic city and is beloved by the actual Jewish people themselves.
