The nation-state is special, a human creation that works much of the time, especially in republican form.  In the U.S., love-of-nation is alive and well, as we move more to treasure our American traditions and social customs.

The idea of nationalism has gained new traction because, globally, progressive governments have failed in their basic responsibilities and reneged on their promises. In our country, nationalism and patriotism have linked arms and have sparked a conservative awakening. American identity and character have made large strides against modern progressivism, which has become an ideology of all words and no deeds that work in real life.

The progressive opponents of American nationalism fear patriotism because it is a threat to socialism, collectivism and world government. These “elites” work to deny American citizens any national identity, because the elites don’t want people to determine their own political destiny. But the best chance individuals have to determine their own future is not to expand government or become “comrades of the world”; it is to promote capitalism and seek individual freedom. The election of Donald Trump was a rebellion against an oppressive liberal world empire, and was a desire for a nation to bind together with a common language and culture—the American Way– with individual rights that replace “group rights”.

The rise of Trump and Brexit, in the UK, were not merely blips on a screen. They were sea changes in direction, they were tides that gave people hope to repossess control of their personal lives and their own countries. These movements represented nation-state comebacks, a sharp warning that these two countries were not going to be subsidiaries of some international world order. The nation-state still mattered. These two events slammed the notion of globalism, confounding the international bureaucrats and the leftist ideologues- the people who see national boundaries as obstacles to their success.

When Trump came in, he shoved aside most of the gains that were made by globalism’s golden-boy, Barack Obama. America’s exceptionalism and economic policies had seen radical changes under Obama, as he tried to implement the same policies that stifled growth in Europe: high taxes, inefficient labor practices, government regulation of crucial industries, and a weakening of the rule of law. But Trump proclaimed, “from now on, it’s going to be ‘America First’”.

America is exceptional because our values are immersed in our national identity. Most ordinary citizens understand there is great value in national borders and living together in harmony with a sense of mutual commitment and equal opportunities; they care about national identity and they mistrust global organizations like the European Union, the World Trade Organization and the World Court.  They do not share enthusiasm for how Europe does things.

And let’s all understand something: there is a night-and-day difference between U.S. nationalists and “white nationalists”. Leftists who try to equate the two are lying and gaslighting.

The main thing readers need to know, to prepare for 2020, is to beware the politicians who oppose American nationalism. Prominent among them are most of the Democratic candidates for President. Most of them want open borders and “free” health care for anyone who needs a hospital or doctor. If open borders happen, we might as well sign the American nation’s death warrant—Gallup says there are 42 million people in Latin America who “want to come to the U.S.”, and most of them cannot pay their own way after they get here.

Beyond the absolute fact that the nation can’t afford what is being proposed by Dem presidential candidates, most of them seem to support collectivism and socialism. This includes a cradle-to-grave welfare net, part of the “free stuff” doctrine of globalism, which is to push the successful nations of the world to redistribute their wealth to people in the failed nations; as one globalist put it, “globalization’s winners can compensate its losers”. Also, the fight between “The Squad” (the clique of progressive brats who oppose nationalism) and President Trump is a classic match between globalism and patriotism. So, as one writer stated, “that is all anyone needs to know for 2020 and beyond”.
